Down for the count

Elliott isn't feeling well today.  He came home from school yesterday and basically layed down for most of the afternoon.  That's not typical Elliott behavior. He went to bed early and woke up with a low grade fever. Hopefully this will turn out to be nothing and it doesn't spread throughout the rest of the family.  This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung’s Galaxy S III. Is your family supportive?

I expect that this question will bring about mixed answers.  However,  I wanted to try and see what your personal experience is on this subject. Do you find that your family and friends are supportive?  If so,  how are they supportive? If not,  why do you feel they aren't. Do think that it comes down to good intentions but a lack of understanding?  Is it an unwillingness to learn? I would really appreciate your feedback on this.  You certainly don't need name names. However, by openly discussing this,  not only do you find others in a similar boat hut also help those well intentioned people to better understand.  :-)   This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung’s Galaxy S III. Minor problems before school

I forgot to mention this yesterday. We did have some minor problems with Gavin before school.  Lizze wanted him to get dressed and wait in his room because she couldn't keep an eye on him at the moment.  After she told him what to do,  Gavin decided that he wasn't going to listen. He told her in reply, I'll meet you downstairs after I get dressed. Lizze told him again to stay and that he needs to listen. That time it stuck and he listened.  If Web weren't in the middle of everything that we're in the middle of,  I would chalk that up to teenage boligerance.  We didn't make a big deal out of this because, quite frankly, that wasn't a battle worth picking at the time. Things just…

The high cost of stress

The cost of all those stress is very, very high. I think that the most profoundly affected by this is without question,  Lizze. She is at a point where she is barely walking. She literally overdid things today by simply getting out of bed this morning. I have some indication of how bad things are for her because she's using her cane in public. That's something that never happens,  unless things are really bad.  On the positive side,  at least Emmett is the only one home during the day now. I suppose I should qualify what I mean by at least Emmett is the only one home during the day now. Having Emmett by himself is still like living in a circus.  He's only one child and his adorable looks…

Where to draw the line?

Where to draw the line? That's a question I can't seem to find the answer to. A few minutes ago,  we caught Bella,  the 8 month old Boxer puppy, licking what I would consider part of Gavin's crotch. Gavin claims he didn't realize she was doing that.  However,  when I said she was licking way too close to his privates,  he said she was licking the inside of his upper leg. So which is it? Did he not realize she was licking him or not? I don't know if this is him testing the limits or if this was truly innocent in nature and he just wasn't paying attention. Unfortunately, we have to assume that there was motive behind allowing this to continue.  We have to run a very tight…

Rare form of autism could be treated with common nutritional supplement

This article is courtesy of Fox News.  All credit goes to them.  Here is the link to the original article. Researchers may have discovered a potential treatment for a rare form of autism marked by epileptic seizures – a simple nutritional supplement. In a recent international study, a team of scientists from the University of California, San Diego and Yale University schools of medicine have identified a genetic mutation in certain patients suffering from this unique type of autism. After performing what is known as exome sequencing – a type of selective genome sequencing – the team found that these patients speed up the metabolism of specific amino acids called branched chain amino acids, or BCAAs. According to Autism Speaks, approximately one-third of those suffering from autism also suffer from…

Operation Hope: The Journey Begins

This morning we had our very first meeting with Wraparound. This meeting was to collect information and make introductions. Our worker is really nice and very eager to help us locate services that could benefit my family. Today was basically, spent signing releases and collecting information, as I said earlier. They will be pulling records and communicating with Dr. Reynolds, Dr. Patti, Akron Children's Hospital and The Cleveland Clinic. Releases were also signed for the school as well as our parents. As I previously stated, our worker is very eager to help my Lost and Tired family to obtain some desperately needed help, in multiple areas of our lives. As with the rest of life, nothing here is guaranteed. However, the way I look at this is nothing ventured, nothing gained. We may walk away from this…

Poop on the floor

It's been a really long day,  and it's only 11:15am. We met with Wraparound,  which I'll post about later and went grocery shopping. Emmett has been all over the place today and was all over the grocery store earlier. As Lizze and Emmett are going down for their naps,  I settled onto the couch to get some writing done. I'm not sitting for 5 minutes before I see Bella cropping on the floor. Keep in mind that I just let her out. Why does everything have to be so difficult anymore? I mean,  Bella could have gone potty outside.  She could have even pooped in one spot. Instead,  it was like someone type of pooping Olympics or something.  She's walking and pooping at the same time.  As soon as I…
