I don’t need your help to feel guilty

It's been a little while since I have been inspired to really sit down and write something with the hopes of really getting my point across. Having said that, I feel compelled to address something that I feel very strongly about. The other day I shared something I found on Fox News. It was a story about a 5 year old little boy with #Autism who was denied lunch because his parents were a few days behind on the payments (see: FOX News: School Denies Autistic Boy Lunch Over Billing Issue). I had to ask myself, how does something like this happen?  How can a grown person, look at a child and deny them food? Does this have anything to do with the child having #Autism or is this just the way we…

Addressing Anxiety

We will be hauling Elliott to the doctor's on Monday morning.  This time it's not for a broken tooth but instead anti anxiety medications.  Elliott is the poster child for generalized anxiety disorder and the quality of his life is significantly affected. This appointment has been a long time coming. Elliott’s anxiety is situational and rather extreme.  This means that all the stress and chaos that goes on in the house as a result of being a special needs family. We have addressed everything that can be immediately addressed but others are in a holding pattern like Gavin's placement. Elliott’s in therapy and we do whatever we can to relieve the anxiety but unfortunately,  medication is our plan B. Plan A was simply not enough to provide him with any…

Holy crap

I was giving Emmett a bath and everything was going well.  Baths help him to relax and he really enjoys them. I had walked over to the bathroom sink to put something away.  In the 7 or 8 seconds it took for me to turn around and put the stuff away,  something began taking over the bath water. As I turned around and saw what was happening, I yanked Emmett out of the tub,  just in time. Within seconds the tubes was overrun by nasty brown water.  It was link an underwater sandstorm.  The brown colored water bellowed out like you see sandstorms do on TV. Emmett was devastated by the attack on his bath water. However,  this was a wide spread attack on all the water baring locations in…

The Gavin Report: 09/14/2012

I wanted to update everyone as to how Gavin has been doing the past few days.  There are two areas of major concern when it comes to my oldest son.  The first being his enormously complicated health problems and the second being his equally complicated mental health challenges. As far as the health side of things go,  he's been relatively stable for the past few days.  We have had periods of heart rates ranging from bradycardic to tachycardic and chest pain ranging from minor to more severe. Nothing was significant enough to warrant a trip to the hospital, so that's good.  On the other hand we have the behavioral side of things,  and that's a rather mixed bag. For the past day or so,  we have been tantrum free.  Gavin…

Just to lighten the mood,  I thought I would pose this question to you all.  Can you wear socks with sandals? Taking it one step further, should you wear sock with sandals? The Lighter Side of #Autism: Naptime

I grabbed this picture after Emmett fell asleep at naptime yesterday, while Gavin was at his infusion. I thought this was a really cute picture,  especially with Bella laying across his little legs.  :-) This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung’s Galaxy S III. My super deal :-)

I snaked a really good deal at Giant Eagle yesterday. It was obviously mismarked but the store honored the price.  Yay me...... I took advantage of the BOGO and also grabbed this as well.  :-) This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung’s Galaxy S III. Please forgive any typos.
