The future of The #Autism Help Forums

You may have noticed that The #Autism Help Forums are down.  Unfortunately, the database didn't survive the server migration.  I'm pretty upset about this and I'm truly sorry that this happened.  However, I will be rebuilding the forums and will simply start over.  Like many of you I don't relish the idea of starting over again but I'm going to use this as an opportunity to learn from my mistakes and make The #Autism Help Forums even better, this time around.  I would also like to announce that TapaTalk has agreed to sponsor the forums and provide a custom mobile forum app.  This is huge and will make things so much more accessible from your mobile device. Please be patient and I will get everything back up and running in…

The verge of collapse

Gavin's arrived home a little while ago.  He had a good time and has been on his best behavior since yesterday morning.  You may remember that huge tantrum he threw because he overheard part of a conversation between Lizze and myself. This took place Friday afternoon and after the tantrum he threw, we weren't going to let him go to Grangmas this weekend.  Having said that, and at the risk of sounding like a bad parent, not allowing him to go was more of a punishment for us. We're at the point where we need him to out of the house as often as possible. Sending him, regardless of his behavior has become the lesser of two evils. However, this means that we can't use not going to Grandma's house…

Emmett’s bodyguards

I put Emmett to bed last night and I had had to wake through the pile of canines to get there. Emmett has a very unique and special bond with both Maggie and Bella. I really like how much they both look after him. I never had a dog when I was his age.  I was much older when we got our first dog.  To me, there's always been something about a dog curling up at the end of your bed.  It always made feel safer and I want that for my boys as well. There is so much that a loyal dog can teach a kid.  I'm very grateful that we found the perfect matches for our family.  Especially, for Emmett.  :-)

The ADHD Experiment: The first day

Elliott's been medicated for over 10 hours now and it's safe to say that the medication has worn off.  He's bouncing off the walls again and definitely not as calm as he's been for most of the day, prior to now. Lizze was saying that he may need a maintenance dose at some point during the day. We'll have to talk to the doctor next week and see what he says. I think I'm going to call today a success.  Elliott seemed happier today and that's got to count for something, right?

How often do you see this?

While I was driving to @Sprint this morning for the phone issues, I was able to snap a picture of this.  There is a dead deer, strapped down on the trunk of a family car. This dude was flying down the freeway and to be honest, I don't know now that hell that deer was attached to the trunk. This just struck me as odd.... I thought I would share this with you all and see if someone could come up with a great caption.... Have fun and give it your best shot...

The ADHD Experiment: 8 hours later

Elliott has officially begun medication to weed out his ADHD symptoms.  We are about 8 hours in and so far so good.  ADHD medications are very fast acting meaning that they begin working almost immediately. It looks as though Elliott may have ADHD.  We have noticed a pretty significant change since this morning.  He's still anxious and full of worry, which is to be expected since we haven't gotten to the anxiety yet.  However, he's much calmer.  I keep asking him if he's alright because I'm so used to him literally bouncing off of everything in sight. Instead, he's actually just sitting down and even using his walking feet.  Our doctor explained to us that if it's going to work, we'll see a significant change the first day.  At this…

Defying Gravity

I wanted to share something that I thought was pretty amazing....   Elliott, my 6 year old with Aspergers absolutely loves the Glee version of Defying Gravity. What I truly find amazing is that he really likes the words of the song. He says it makes him feel better to listen to this. I think it's pretty deep for a 6 year old to recognize that a song has a message that fits his life. This is one of those truly profound moments that really amaze me as a parent. I really think it's cool that Elliott can relate to a song's lyrics. In my opinion, I think this song absolutely describes Elliott and I can understand why he relates to it so much. For a little boy, asked to cope with way…
