Meeting the Nutritionist at @AkronChildrens Hospital: The waiting game

We actually arrived early.  Anyone with kids, let alone special needs kids, knows that can often times be a a victory in and of itself. The boys are sitting and being entertained by their respective 3DS's. Elliott is really nervous about meeting the Nutritionist today.  He was begging us not to take him today and promised that he would start eating again.  We explained that this is more for Mommy and Daddy but he is afraid of all doctors. Hopefully we will make it through this untraumatized.

Picking up the pieces, moving forward and finding balance

One of the big things that we have to do as a part of Operation Hope is trying to get our lives back together. Of all the things that we have to accomplish and all the challenges that must be met, the most difficult for me is picking up the pieces and moving forward. I realize that may sound a bit cliche but it is what it is.  Trying to get our lives in track is no easy task.  In fact, at times I feel it's impossible.  I so desperately want to be free from all the baggage we've collected over the years.  I want to see the boys happy and healthy. I want to be caught up on our bills and dramatically improve our living environment. However, to do…

Meeting a Nutritionist at @AkronChildrens today

Lizze and I don't our best to be proactive parents.  We like to head things off before they can become a problem, at least whenever possible.  We also never shy away from seeking get out additional help, especially when it comes to our kids. Having said that, we will be meeting with a nutritionist at Akron Children's Hospital today.  Lizze and I spoke with our immunologist and they made the referral right away.  In fact, they actually have a nutritionist in the office every Wednesday for this type of thing.  We're hoping to get some guidelines and ideas on how to ensure Elliott is meeting go his nutritional goals, while at the same time, being on a pretty restrictive diet. At the moment, Lizze and I are fully aware that…

Tuesday Therapy: Concerns about Elliott

Lizze and I spent much of our appointment with Dr. Patti discussing our concerns about Elliott and what he's been going through. I'm really worried about him and I don't know how to help him.  All I can do at this point is just reinforce with him that we are here if he needs us and that Mommy and Daddy will take care of him.  It doesn't seem to help much but at least he knows we are there for him. We think that most of his struggles stem from what is going on with Gavin and now his whole life has changed because of his new food allergies. In his eyes, he's losing everything.  I can't even imagine being 6 years old and feeling like that.  My heat breaks…

Today’s #Autism Victory: Getting along…for more than 5 minutes

After meeting with Dr. Patti tonight, the boys were actually getting along.  It wasn't perfect but it was definitely something that falls into the category of getting along.  Lizze found this Christmas advent calendar game in the Google Play Store. Basically, a new game opens everyday as it counts down to Christmas. For a good 20 or 30 minutes tonight, the boys snuggled together on the couch taking turns with Lizze's phablet. I was really nice to watch because for once, they were getting along together for more than 5 minutes. In my book, that's a really big victory. :-)

For my techy friends: My data speeds on @Tmobile

I wanted to share a screen shot of my data speeds today.  Since switching to Tmobile, I haven't found a single dead area in my local travels. I've sailed through the Sprint dead spots without missing a beat.  I'm really excited to be able to actually use phone while off of the WiFi network. Anyway, what you see below is a low average of what I'm seeing everyone time I checked.  These numbers are stable both indoors and out. I've seen as high as 12mb down and 3mb up. I also haven't been lower than about 2mb down and 1.5mb up. That's more than enough to do just about anything with, including decent tethering.

Coping with #Autism and Food Allergies

The Lost and Tired family isn't new to food allergies.  However, past food allergies weren't as serious as what we are now dealing with. In the advent of Elliott's newly diagnosed tree nut allergy, I trying to figure out what the best approach is to eliminate those things from his diet.  I guess my question is, if your child has a tree nut allergy, do you simply remove it from their diet or the entire house? In our case, Elliott is the only one with this allergy and trying to find a balance between food he can eat and food everyone else can eat has been difficult. Many times, Elliott simply refuses to eat because he either can't eat what everyone else is eating or he is afraid that his…

What a difference a plate makes

Emmett is by nature, a very picky eater. We are always looking for new ways to encourage healthier eating habits or in some cases, eating period. While at Walmart yesterday, Emmett discovered these $. 99 plastic plates and wanted to get one for him and Elliott. We thought, what the heck. As you can see, he's utilizing it well.  He has an apple, frosted mini-wheats and some Angry Bird Graham crackers. He's happy and at least for now, eating better........ I'd say that it was well worth the $2.00 we spent on it yesterday.  :-)
