Another successful meeting

We got our 2nd team wraparound meeting underway a bit late today. However, despite the delayed start, the meeting went really well.  As far as I'm concerned, this meeting was very productive and we had some great ideas brought to the table.  Our initial goal is to reduce the overall stress in the family. The reality is that Gavin will likely be home for 2 weeks over Christmas break. There really isn't anything we can do about this. As you already know, I prefer to deal with reality and so we are putting together a plan to make this as liveable for everyone as possible.  The boys principal had a great idea about setting a really ridged schedule/routine that is as close to what occurs at school as possible. She…

Operation Hope: 2nd Team Meeting

In the morning we have our 2nd team meeting with wraparound. I don't know what the topic of this meeting will be however, it will likely be a follow up to last week's meeting. I did get the information we needed to get a an actual case manager.  I haven't had a chance to call yet but I will tomorrow. A case manager will take some of the load off of us and kinda become a go to. At this point in the game, I'm happy to offload some of the responsibility. Anything to make life a bit easier.  :-) I'll let you all know how it goes.  Lizze will be there, as will my mom this time.  Hopefully, this will be a productive meeting.  :-)

What have you resorted to in order to get your child with #Autism to eat?

Dietary issues are pretty common when dealing with kids on the #autism spectrum. Factor in things like food allergies and sensory issues and it really can get complicated. I can't stress this enough. I wish people would throw away the old saying that if their hungry they'll eat. I don't think that it applies here. We aren't talking about just picky eaters. These kids have a physical aversion to certain colors, smells, tastes and textures. They're not being difficult. In many cases the child will go hungry rather than eat something that will upset them. When you add in food allergies or special diets, you're essentially removing options that can make getting them to actually eat, extremely difficult. My Elliott's the same way. We met with a dietitian yesterday to…

The Penny war ends on Friday

Something that Elliott and Gavin’s school is doing is called The Penny War. Each classroom is trying to collect the most pennies. You can also put dollar bills, nickels, dimes and quarters into another classrooms pot.  For example, if a classroom get a $1 bill in their pot, they loose 100 pennies.  Hence the phrase Penny Wars. Anyways, when all is said and done, the money will be counted, converted into cash and donated to a family in need.  This is one war that I support.  In fact, we been arming Elliott's classroom with ammunition.  We've done the same for Gavin's classroom for years.  Now it's Elliott’s turn. The winning classroom gets a pizza party.  As the dust settles by Friday afternoon, we should have the winner announced.  However, in…

The Autism Help Forums are moving

I wanted to let everyone know that I'm in the process of moving the Autism Help Forums to a dedicated site. I want the site to be more easily found and by doing this, it will be. Right now the forums are down as I will be migrating soon. I hope to have them back up and running after a few security patches and upgrades. Thank you for all your patience and support and we continue to work through our growing pains.

Off to a good start

Elliott actually got off to school with little resistance. I also got him to eat a hard boiled egg and some yogurt. There wasn't any screaming and yelling this morning and for that I'm quite grateful. I really dislike the days that Elliott really digs his heels in and refuses to do anything.  That doesn't set a good tone for the day.  When we left for school this morning he was was in a really good mood.  Finger crossed for a good day.......

Behind the pain

I wanted to take a minute and update you all on how Lizze is doing.  She has decided to put her pain rehabilitation on hold. She has very personal reasons for that but basically one of her aunts is very, very ill and Lizze is really struggling with that, as we all are. At this point in time, she's not in the right frame of mind to take on something as intense as pain rehab. For the record, I support this decision because she only gets one shot at this.  Right now, her place is at home and spending as much time with her aunt as God will allow. Unfortunately, Lizze's is in a great deal of pain.  Her current doctors don't seem to want to manage her medications anymore.…
