My Autism Help

You may have noticed that the My Autism Help Forums have been down for a few days... This was done for a couple of reasons. The first reason was so that I could move the forums to their own, dedicated site. The second reason was for upgrades and security patches.  From now on, you can find the forums at myautismhelp.com. I will be updating the My Autism Help app in the Goggle Play Store today as well. I've also made a few changes to the forums themselves, mostly under the hood, in order to increase security. The one that will be the most noticeable is that for now, new members must be approved by either myself or a moderator. There is simply much computer generated spam and right now, this is the best way…

Life is a balance

Lizze family has an annual Christmas Party and this year it's today. Typically, we don't go because we have the kids and as you probably know from your own experience, that doesn't always go well.  These types of events are generally considered to be overstimulation situations.  However, this year we have decided to let Gavin go and spend time with his cousins. Lizze's parents want to take him and so the fallout, if any, will be their to deal with.  Part of the reason we decided to okay this is because we're starting to look at things a bit differently.  With Gavin, we are looking at quality of life issues.  With everything he has going on with his health, no one knows where he's going to be in the future.…

Fun fact

This is more of a less fun and more fact thing but I figured I'd share it anyway. As relaxing as it sounds to have a glass of wine and a bowl of ice cream, it turns out that they really don't mix well.  I would suggest either one or the other but not both.  Unless you want to put the breaks on relaxing evening with an upset stomach. Yuck.......

It’s okay to escape for a bit

I never thought I would say this but I miss being carded. Dammit, I feel old.  I ran out to the grocery store tonight to grab some bathroom essentials and at Lizze's request, a bottle of wine.  Now, Lizze and I never drink and I mean never drink. We always had too much going on and didn't want to start self-medicating. However, our goal after this meeting we had this morning was to reduce our stress levels.  With that said, I picked up a bottle of the very best Giant Eagle had to offer and my $7 budget would allow.  I also picked up a carton of mint chocolate chip ice cream as well.  Although, thinking about this now, I'm not sure that will mix well. Anyway, Lizze and I…

Dedicated to all the victims of the Connecticut shooting

Regardless of your personal beliefs, what happened today in Connecticut is an absolute tragedy. Please put what divides us aside for right now and join hands in a moment of silence for the victims of today's tragedy.  With that said....... Very rarely am I at a loss for words but..........I am today. My heart breaks for all the children and families affected by the Connecticut school shooting today. The loss of life is beyond a senseless tragedy. I want to say how completely heartbroken for those killed in this despicable act. Everyone is in our thoughts and prayers and will remain there.  As a parent, this is my absolute worst nightmare and I can't even begin to understand what these parents are going through. Please hug your children tonight and be thankful that you have them. As a…

Use your words

I thought this was pretty funny.  This morning, I walked into the house from our meeting and apparently forgot to feed the tortoise before leaving.  Needless to say, he didn't look very happy with me as he sat there waiting for Mr to feed him.  I thought use your words made a pretty good caption.  Do you have a better one?

Robby the snowman

Elliott's homework assignment for this week was to create a snowman from things around the house.  This is what Elliott came up with.  He's super proud of this and so are we.  He decided to name his snowman Robby, after yours truly.  :-) Super cool........

How do you balance healthy eating vs eating anything at all?

I've been on the subject of dietary needs lately.  Many families struggle to get their child on the #autism spectrum to eat, on daily basis. This is something that the Lost and Tired family is currently working through. I got to thinking this morning about something and I wanted to share it with you and get your thoughts. Basically, I was wondering how you balance eating healthy with vs eating anything at all? Does that make sense? Let me give you an example of what I mean. Right now, the only thing that Elliott will eat, is pretty much East of Chicago pizza. I don't know what it is about it that agrees with him but he will almost always eat that if offered. My concern is that he can't…
