It begins… Oatmeal for breakfast

I've been trying to work with Gavin on staying out of Lizze's personal space.  Since he's been home, he's already been violating her personal space on numerous occasions.  Before everyone is going to jump on the autism train, take a deep breath and hear me out.  Boundary issues are very common with those on the autism spectrum.  However, while that may play a small part in this, there is much more going on behind the scenes.  Gavin is a child with reactive attachment disorder and also a very long, documented history of targeting Lizze with inappropriate behavior. This appears to be more of the same.  He's brushing up against her and is making contact with her breasts as well.  Yesterday I had to inform him that if he violated his…

What I’m most grateful for…….

As bad as things are for us right now, I really make a concerted effort to find something positive in all this madness.  I wanted to take a second and share what I'm most grateful for and encourage you to do the very same thing.  Sometimes just saying what you're most grateful for out loud, can be a perspective changer.

My personal experience with the IdolPad 9

I’ve had a couple of weeks to get to know this device. Basically, this is an entry level android tablet. This particular device is not meant to be an iPad killer by any means.

Entry level tablet means that this is a great tablet for anyone looking to get their feet wet and experience an android tablet at a very, very affordable price.

My kids have been playing with this tablet for a couple of weeks now and it’s worked out pretty well for them.

We have used this device to stream Netflix and watch ripped DVD’s from our personal collection. The IdolPad 9 handles these tasks with relative ease and efficiency. The boys have also played their educational games by Intellijoy as well as enjoys games like Angry Birds, Where’s My Water, Where’s My Perry and Sprinkle. 20121221_161034. _wm

The resolution is 800×600, which is pretty low, especially when compared to the iPad or more advanced android tablets. However, what may seem like a weakness actually works out well, especially for younger kids. The 800×600 resolution makes the icons larger and easier to use for kids, especially those on the #autism spectrum.

My kids really like using this tablet and have benefited from their time with it. My hope is that your child will too. 🙂

This winters first storm

We are in the beginnings of a rather large winter storm that will be wrapping its icy cold arms around us for the next day or so. I trip to Walgreens to grab a few items and roads, even the main ones were pretty bad already.  I have a feeling that our plans or visiting Lizze's parents tonight will have to be put on hold.  We're supposed to get something like 8 to 12 inches by tomorrow. Who knows.  As the Pizza Hut delivery girl told us the other night, sometimes they can't even predict what time it is.  :-) I thought that was pretty funny.  Anyway, I hope you are all staying warm and safe, if like us, you're in the path of this winter storm.

This is how serious food allergies can be

I wanted to take a minute and help you to have a better understanding of what the Lost and Tired family is going through when it comes to Elliott's food allergies.  My hope it that by better understanding our situation, you may be able to apply what you've learned and the insight that you've gain,  to help support someone in your life,  going through something similar.  Below you will find a letter that we received from Elliott's immunologist/allergist.  These are the detailed instructions provided to the school, in regards to Elliott and his allergy. I was actually surprised to see how ridged this was.  I'm still learning about just how serious a tree nut allergy is.  If it's this bad at school, just imagine what it's like at home.  A…

The Gorski Christmas Get Together 2012

I wanted to share some pictures from the Gorski Christmas get together. It was pretty low key, just the way I like it.  The boys did really well and I'm hoping that translates into a quiet evening.  At some point tomorrow, we are going to be going to Lizze's parents and I'll take pictures and pass them along.  I hope you all had a great Christmas.  I hope your little ones handled it well and enjoyed themselves.  I also hope that inevitable fallout will be minimal and as painless as possible for both you and your kiddos.  :-)
