How do your kids get along?

Today began at about 4am,  when Emmett first awoke.  From there things went down hill pretty quickly. Elliott and Emmett have been at each others throats all morning. What is it with these two? Emmett has this need to take everything that Elliott happens to be playing with... Elliott in turn, freaks out and sometimes even fights back. This is not a good way to begin the weekend. I much prefer things when they are actually getting along.  I know they are capable of it. How do your kids get along??

#Autism, #Depression and Medication

Elliott began his anti-depression medication today.  The medication he is on is called Remeron. This is a medication that until now, I've never heard of.  I was a bit uncomfortable with this because of how little we knew about it. However, after meeting with his psychiatrist, Dr. Reynolds, it's really the only option we have and by far the safest.  We also met with his pediatrician at Akron Children's Hospital as well.  He agreed that this was the best option we had and because Elliott's depression is so bad, we really needed to get this started.  Elliott is very capable of taking pills.  However, he doesn't like taking medicine at all.  In fact, simply asking him to do so led to a meltdown/panic attack and a flat out refusal to…

@ClevelandClinic : All clear on the Macular Hole front

*squee* I had my eye scan, which made my migraine so much worse. Then Dr. Martin read the scan and called me back, again. Then he read the scan with Rob and I in the room. Everything is PERFECT!!!  Well, here’s the run-down: ~ I have 20/20 vision. (Yay!) ~ I do see diagonal lines when looking at the grid, which is a hallmark sign and symptom of macular holes. ~ I have other visual disturbances that cannot be explained by my eye exam. ~ It is believed that I am now having ocular migraines, which are basically migraines where I have visual disturbances without the pain. (Apparently, these are quite common.) ~ I have something called lattice degeneration, which means my retina is thinning at 9 o’clock in my left eye. ~ In…

Enjoying Food by @EnjoyLifeFoods

I had the amazing opportunity to review a few products by Enjoy Life.  Enjoy Life foods provides a variety of healthy, allergy free foods. As most of my readers are familiar with, Elliott is by far, my pickiest eaters.  Not only does he deal with aspergers and a host of sensory related issues but he has also been diagnosed with a tree nut allergy. Suffice it to say, getting him to eat anything, can be a real struggle. When I was approached with this opportunity, I jumped on it.  I figured that Elliott might get a kick out of helping me test and review these products, and maybe, just maybe, he'll find something that he really likes. I'll be completely honest with you, I wasn't holding my breath. Having said…

Operation Hope: An end to weekly meetings

Today hasn't started off on good leg.  Elliott was kept home for a couple reasons. The main reason being that we're starting him on his new anti-depressants and need to watch him. I ended up going to our final weekly meeting by myself. This was a really good meeting, not that they all aren't.  This was just very productive. I called and left a message for the person who sets up our case management assessment. This was a step forward as well.  Apparently, I'd been trying the wrong number.  :-( Anyway, this is a step in the right direction...  Perhaps a small step on the overall grand scheme but an important one none the less.

The Lighter side of #Autism: Snug as a bug

As with any child with #Autism or any child period, for that matter,  Emmett had a pretty up and down day. There were periods of time where all he did was scream and scream some more. There were other times that he was exceptionally happy and enjoying the moment we were in.  That's pretty much par for the course, as far as Emmett's concerned lately.  This morning he was really tired but refused to go upstairs and take a nap. So Lizze laid down for a little while and I set up Emmett on the couch and put on Spiderman Unlimited, his current favorite show on Netflix. He didn't even make it through the opening theme song before he was out.  He went from screaming and meltdowns to peacefully asleep,…

Daddy’s little helper

I received a call from Best Buy today.  They were letting me know that the TV was being replaced.  This was really exciting and we went right away. I had to bring in out defective one and they were going to swap it out with a comparable model. This didn't go as planned because all the TV's they had to swap it with were basically downgrades.  Even though our TV was valued at $1,200 when we bought it, they would only give us a replacement TV valued at basically $700. I'm confused about bit by their logic in this but at the same time, a free replacement is a free replacement, especially when what you have is broken. Anyway, it eventually worked out because we were able to get another…
