Can you afford to be sick?

Can you afford to be sick? I know that sounds like a dumb question but I was hoping to make a point with it.  Special needs parenting is not to be undertaken by the faint of heart.  It takes tremendous sacrifice but the rewards can be endless. However, with all the constant demand on your attention and the extreme levels of stress, it's easy to get run down.  For me personally, that tends to be when I get sick.  It's like adding insult to injury but it happens.  With my wife Lizze, already down most of the time, it's really, really important that I keep moving forward.  Getting sick isn't something that I can afford to do. Having said that, it has once again happened.  Last night I felt like…

Thank you for taking care of me

I want to take a minute and say, thank you to my amazing wife, Lizze.  I became ill early yesterday evening from mild food poisoning, at least that's my best guess. I'll spare you the details. Lizze, despite probably feeling good worse than I did, took care of me in my hour of need. It's about 4:30 am and I'm awake.  I can't seem to fall back asleep so I thought I would thank Lizze for taking care of me last night.  :-) I'm feeling a little bit better but not 100%, not even close.  I'm gonna try and finish sleeping this off. Out with the cold and in with the flu

It seems as though Elliott's stomach flu is less flu and more upper respiratory. Elliott has a notoriously sensitive gag reflex. This means that if he experiences any post nasal drip, it's the perfect conditions for him to vomit.  I'm pretty sure that's what happened this morning.  He definitely has something respiratory going on and he has the whole runny nose thing as well.  We have to be careful with these because of his asthma. He'll be home from school tomorrow as well.  Hopefully, he'll be able to shake this and have it not turn into bronchitis.  That would be really cool. Life in a Laundry Basket

One of the things that seems to be pretty consistent in my life as a special needs parent, is stress. Most of the stress I feel is generated as a result of forces outside of my control. That's just something I have to accept and learn to better deal with.  There's also a good bit of stress that I place upon my own shoulders. That's something that I'm finally beginning to realize and trying to do something about. There are so many things that I find myself stressed out over, each and every day.  These are things that many of us probably share an affinity for stressing out over. There's always something going on with my kids and my wife.  Bills just keep piling up, much like the backlog of…

Walking panic attack

We are one day outside of Lizzes migraine infusion and we are dealing with a few issues. She's physically and emotionally exhausted.  I'm not sure what's going on but emotionally, she's in a really bad place. I think everything is finally catching up to her.  Right now she's a walking panic attack.  I'm really hoping that things will settle down for her on the short side of quick. One with the flu

What began as a sore throat yesterday, has turned ed into a stomach bug. Mr. Elliott Richard puked this morning, all over the side of his bed.  :-( Lizze has a couple appointments today so I'll be on my own for at least part of the day.  I'm really hoping to be able to get my tablet review up and get my next giveaway posted by the weekend. Good news on the home front

I wanted to let everyone know that despite all the setbacks of late, there have been a few victories and big ones at that.  Our tax return came in very early, and I mean very early. As of yesterday, I was able to pull us out of foreclosure status on our mortgage.  We aren't completely caught up but it was huge progress and that takes away a bit of stress from the mix.  I was also able to get caught up on some very important bills as well.  There are still many left to be brought current but again, this is progress. There are many things that unfortunately, fell by the wayside because of massive expense we had with the mortgage and a few other unexpected things. We weren't able to…

Today’s #Autism Victory: Naptime

Sometimes, it's the tiniest victories that have the biggest impact. Today for example was made a tiny bit easier by the fact that Emmett actually took a nap this afternoon.  He fell asleep while watching Netflix on the TV.  He's pretty much outgrown the whole nap thing but still does better after having one.  I'm thankful that he fell asleep for about an hour.  Not only did that give me a small break, but it put him in a much better mood for the rest of the day.  This was a tiny victory but one that had a positive impact on everyone.  :-) This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. Please forgive any typos.
