Paying it forward in the name of #Autism Awareness: Leading By Example

I wanted to share a couple of the ways I have payed it forward this week.  I couldn't very well ask my readers to do something that I'm not wiling to do myself. This was my experience paying it forward. I wanted to give back to the school that has taken such good care of our kids. This March, the school is having a Math Night.  They encourage all the families to attention and learn some cool things about Math. One of the things they do is have a raffle to help raise money.  They usually raffle off a cool gift basket or something like that.  Thanks to the original generosity of Idolian, I was able to donate a 16 GB Android tablet to be included in this year's gift…

#Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder and Teething

Last night we made an amazingly scary discovery.  Emmett is teething.  He has 2 molars coming in right now and he is miserable.  As a parent, I hate when this happens because not only is help in pain, but he's experiencing it more intensely because of the way his brain interprets pain and other sensory input. The other, more human side of me hates this because Emmett is going to be a nightmare to deal with for awhile.  Sure, that's probably selfish, to an extent but as I said, I'm human. Whoever wrote the rule book for what a special needs child needs to live through should probably be dragged out back and shot, old west style. I feel like our kids have enough on their plate and adding pain…

Today’s #Autism Victory: School Days

I've gotten away from doing this and I want to make a concerted effort to focus in the victories, no matter how big or small. Today, Elliott had another good day at school.  This isn't exactly breaking news because Elliott almost always has a good day at school.  However, sometimes it nice to acknowledge his efforts so he knows how proud of him we are.  :-) Today's #Autism Victory goes to Mr. Elliott Richard for having another fantastic day at school.  Elliott, Mommy and Daddy are so proud of you.  :-) This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. Please forgive any typos. Fun Fact about Screaming Kids

Here's a fun fact about being in a car with screaming kids.  It'll drive you fucking crazy after awhile.  Right now I'm on my very last marble.  All the other marbles have left the station on the train called Self-Preservation. They promised to send me a post card when they arrive so I know their safe....but ya know, I'm not holding my breath.  :-( This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. Please forgive any typos. I’m grateful today because…….

My family is the poster family for life can really sick. However, I really do try to remain positive as much as I possibly can.  You won't find me trying to spin reality I to a positive light because I think that it's vital that we face the reality of a situation. Having said that, even on the worst of days, it can be possible to find something to be grateful for.  Sometimes, for me, I grateful to have physically survived the day.  Other times I'm grateful that only one of my kids is in the hospital.  On some days, I'm grateful that we didn't receive any mail because that means a day without new bills piling up. The above may seem silly but I have to say, in light…

Pay it forward in the name of #Autism Awareness

I want to issue a challenge to everyone that reads this site.  This is pretty simple and it doesn't have to cost you a thing.  Having said that, it can really make a difference in the world. Pay it forward.  Basically, what that means is do something nice for someone else, with no strings attached and with no expectations of them returning the favor to you.  Instead, the only thing that you ask of them in return, is to pay it forward to someone else. Maybe you pay for someone's food while in line at the drive thru. Perhaps, you shovel a neighbors driveway or sidewalk.  You could also simply donate a smile and a kind word to someone who could really use it.  There are literally millions of ways…
