The nightmare that is Chuck E Cheeses

We took Elliott and Emmett to Chuck E Cheeses on Saturday.  Elliott's birthday is on Monday and we wanted to do something special for him. He's going through a lot right now and we wanted to just celebrate him in a way that he would be thrilled to death with.  He loves Chuck E Cheeses and actually does really well there despite everything that Chuck E Cheeses is.  We all had a great deal of fun until I got sick.  That's right, Daddy sorta ruined things towards the end because I had to get home and lay down. The boys were really understanding and I'm really grateful for that but I still feel really bad.  I'm really glad the boys had a good time but OMFG, I friggin HATE Chuck…

Please join the My #Autism Help Forum and help me to help others

Do you ever find yourself wishing that you could talk to someone that understands? Someone that get's it. Personally, I know what that's like and I decided to do something about it. I want to encourage everyone to join the My Autism Help Forums. The My Autism Help Forums are designed by me and run on the industry standard forum software, vBulletin. #Autistic Works of Art: Finger Painting pt 3

I wanted to share another piece of Emmett artwork.  This is another finger painting masterpiece that he made.  It's always really cool for me to see what his beautiful mind cooks up.  This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. Please forgive any typos. To all the haters: Why are you so quick to judge?

I realize that by putting myself out there like this, I open myself up to people's opinions. Usually, I do think have a problem with hearing what my readers think. In fact, I actually like hearing from people and learning what they think.  Many times, I'm met with incredible insight and amazing advice. Having said that, recently there seems to be a great deal of negative, to the point I actually made my YouTube channel private. You would not believe the hateful comments I received from people who took the videos out of context and failed to see what I was trying to do.  I didn't even respond to them and even stopped reading them altogether. I even get comments from people on the blog who read one or two…

Today’s Victory: No kids

I wanted to let you all know that we actually have had a night to ourselves.  The boys are at their grandparents and Emmett is still there and we haven't gotten a phone call that he wants to come home. I don't know what it is with him but sometimes he'll stay the night and other times he won't.  We did absolutely nothing tonight.  Lizze was working on her blog and I watched a movie. It would be nice to go out every once in awhile but we'll humbly take what we can get....and be grateful for it. At 10 pm, I was in bed and trying to fall asleep. I should be able to sleep in and take everything really slow in the morning.  :-) This site is managed…

How can you tell that your child with #Autism is happy?

I expect that this question will be answered differently by different people.  As Autism is a dynamic condition, everyone is affected differently. Because of this difference, I can imagine that it may be challenging for some families to understand what their child with Autism is feeling. This is especially true with nonverbal children. Before Emmett began to speak, it was heartbreaking because we never really knew what he was feeling.  Honestly, even now, after he's gained language, it's still a challenge to understand where he's coming from at times. We learned to interpret the noises he would make and it helped us to gauge how he was feeling in the absence of the spoken word.. How do you know what your verbal or nonverbal child with Autism is feeling? Have…
