I fu@king hate the time change

I write about this every year because I really truly hate.  Today we are Springing Forward. I'm not opposed to gaining some extra daylight as we make the lush towards warmer months.  The problem I have is the inevitable disaster that will be facing my kids. This always happens because their biological clocks will fight to the death in opposition of the time change and their schedules will be thrown off.  We see a couple of things happen as a result of either moving the clocks ahead or back. The first huge problem is bedtime.  They always have a hard time sleeping after the time change. Subsequently  they also have a hard time getting up in the morning.  The boys will also be a bit cranky as well. Sometimes this…

Today’s #Autism Victory: At least they’re getting along. Right?

I don't think this really needs much dialog as the  visuals should speak for themselves.  However, despite all the mess you see in front of you, they are getting along. Right now, that's a victory.  I mean there's no way they could have accomplished this mess without resorting to teamwork.  Great job boys.  :-) This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. How Reactive Attachment Disorder impacts our family

You would do not believe the impact that stress can have on the human body. Well, maybe you can. I mean, anyone that's a parent, let alone a special needs parent, is probably all too familiar with stress. This past week has been extremely stressful for the Lost and Tired family. It's started out fine but then that sneaky bastard known as Monday, showed it's ugly face once again, throwing our lives further into chaos. Between Gavin being rushed to the ER at Akron Children's Hospital for another autonomic crisis then returning home for almost a week, planning for our next wraparound meeting, Elliott being home from school all week with a nasty sinus infection, scrambling to locate resources that will help us with our pending gas shut off tomorrow…

Seeing the world through smudge caked glasses

I have this weird little thing.  I'm huge into technology, which isn't a secret. However, I'm also very particular about things as well.  My phone for example, is cleaned daily. I love spraying the cleaning spray on the screens of things like phones, tablets, TV and laptops, then gently wiping them clean with a nice microfiber cloth. Much like the Monk, on the old TV show with the same name, smudges drive me nuts. As a parent to 3 boys that lay down the smudges faster than I can wipe them up, I sometimes feel myself just twitching, when I go to turn on the TV and see the finger smudges all over it.  Now we have a new smudge collector in the house and I'm twitching a lot more…

#Autism Discussion: Has parenting been all that you thought it would be?

I was wondering how you all felt about parenting. Has parenting, up to this point in your life, been everything you thought it would be? If you have a special needs child, how has that impacted you? The reason I'm asking this is because I think that everyone has expectations when they are younger about how being a parent and raising a family will be.  Sometimes, life can throw you a curveball in the form of a special needs child. Don't assume that being a curveball means anything bad.  It's simply referring to an unplanned change of course or the beginning of a new journey. It's simply different than what you may have envisioned parenting being like. I would really like to hear your opinions. :-) This site is managed…

Chicken Soup for the parenting soul

I made another huge stock pot of my famous Chicken Noodle Soup.  I made it a bit different this time. Here's what's inside: 8 fresh chicken  quarters 2 large bags of fresh mixed veggies (broccoli, carrots etc) Flax oil Oatmeal Dandelion greens Frozen pasta 2 large red onions Everything boils for about 6 hours before I add the noodles.  This is Emmett's favorite thing I make and he usually has about 2 bowls. Elliott won't come within 10 feet of it. Lizze, who does not the typically like chicken noodle Soup but she really likes mine.  I'm able to hide tons of veggies in the soup so that those who eat it,  don't even realize there's anything hidden.. Facing the fallout

Gavin left last night to go back to his Grandparents house. He was home all week and while for the most part he was doing okay, the impact of him being home is being felt, even after his departure. I refer to this impact as fallout. Elliott and Emmett don't get along very well when Gavin has been home for any period of time. Truthfully, they don't get along all the time anyway but it's much worse when Gavin's been involved. I'm not entirely sure what is behind this behavioral change in the boys but I suspect it has to do with everything they have been through when Gavin actually lived here full time. The boys absolutely love Gavin but at the same time have learned to fear him as…
