Varying degrees of bad news

Today's been one of those days that just keeps on giving. In some cases that would be a welcomed event. However, in this case, I don't want what today's been throwing at us. We received a call from Gavin's immunologist this afternoon.  These calls are never good. Typically, if she calls us out of the blue, it means that something is wrong.  Today was no exception. The reason she was calling was to let us know about Gavin's lab work from Monday. This past Monday was Gavin's latest IVIG Infusion.  This infusion provides him with an immune system, since his own is defective. Before every infusion, they do lab work to check his immunoglobulin levels.  This let's us know if the dosage is right.  If they are too low, he…

The eye exam at @AkronChildrens: Prepping Emmett

Lizze and I have arrive with Emmett in tow, at Akron Children's Hospital to see Dr. Lawhon in pediatric ophthalmology. As you may recall from a few months ago and tons of super cute pictures, Emmett has been wearing glasses recently to help correct his newly discovered vision problems. Today's appointment is basically a followup appointment to make sure his glasses are helping and don't need to be stronger. There is a chance that if they aren't helping enough he may need to wear an eye patch for a little while. Hopefully of course, that won't be the case. I consider us really, really, really lucky that he actually wears his glasses without a problem, especially enlight of all the sensory challenges he has. Shortly before we arrived at today,…

When things don’t go as planned

Today is already not going as planned.  Lizze went to the IEP meeting for Gavin this morning and as soon as she gets back we have to be on our way to Akron Children's Hospital for Emmett's followup eye appointment.  With Elliott being sick, we are going to have to divide and conquer. One of our goals for today was to take Elliott with us to Emmett's followup appointment.  We need to get Elliott in for his own evaluation but he way, way to terrified. We thought if he could see Emmett have his exam, he would realize that there is nothing to be afraid. It was a brilliant plan but one that won't be seeing the light of day. Elliott is just too sick to go along today.  He's…

The onslaught of appointments

Tomorrow morning begins an onslaught of appointments that will carry us through the end of the month.  At this point, the tally is 16. We have 16 appointments over the next 14 days. These appointments will included Akron Children's Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic,  the dentist, the eye doctor and a few more. I'm not sure how all of this is going to work out. Right now, Elliott is getting another nasty sinus infection and that's going make tomorrow a bit more challenging. Most of these appointments are really, really important and can't be rescheduled....... This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. Encouragement

I'm really enjoying making these little cards with inspiring text.  On a day that has found me in rough place and unable to focus on  writing anything with any substance, this has been a pleasant change of pace.  Hopefully, you will find some meaning in them as they each hold meaning for me.  These have been very popular on Facebook today a special I wanted to show you all some love.  Please feel free to share them, like them or pass them along to someone that could use the words of encouragement. Autistic, Anxious and Sick

Elliott is home from school today because he was up all night due to not feeling well, although he won't admit it. Mr.  Elliott is our amazing 7 year old aspie. Unfortunately, he's very much an extremely anxious child and quite fearful of the doctors. When it comes to being sick or not feeling well, he does his best to hide it for fear we will take him to the doctors. The only way we knew that his throat hurt today was because he made the comment that the popsicle we gave him made his throat feel better. When I asked him if his throat hurt, a look of panic comes over his face and he begs me not to take him to the doctors. I have lost track of…

IVIG Infusion @AkronChildrens Hospital was a success 4/16/2013

I wanted to let everyone know that Gavin's IVIG Infusion went really well yesterday.  Lizze's Mom reports that Gavin did really well behaviorally.  He also physically tolerated the infusion pretty well.  Thankfully, he did not experience an autonomic crisis as a result of the travel to the hospital or the physical stress the infusion itself has on his body.  These are all positive things.  Hopefully, he does well today at school.  We used to keep him home the day after an infusion, to give him a chance to recover. However, he's been doing pretty well and so he's been going to school the next day without any problems.
