Another random shooting

There was another shooting within earshot of our house on Thursday.  It took place a few blocks north of us and is honestly really scary.  This poor and very innocent man was simply walking his dog, when a van pulled up and someone inside, shot him in the chest. This appears to be a totally random.  My guess would be gang related.  How are we even supposed to feel safe stepping outside of our house? How are we supposed to let the boys even play in the yard? Operation Hope: Hurry up and wait

On Friday, I was scheduled to check in with Gavin's autonomic specialists office and touch base on how the alpha-blockers were working. The truth is that they don't appear to be doing much of anything, one way or the other.  Gavin has been complaining about chest pain again and it's been awhile since we've seen that.  However, his resting heart rate is still in the 130's.  I explained that because his metabolism is so elevated, it's now affecting his already compromised immune system.  Basically, things are getting even more complicated now.  Unfortunately, Dr. Moodley is out of the office until the 20th. The nurse said that basically, because Gavin is so complex, no one would want to touch this and make medication changes, unless it was an emergency, until Dr.…

A break is a break…right?

We will be having a day to ourselves this weekend.  We're going to be shuffling the kids around a little bit.  Gavin will be going to my parents and Elliott and Emmett will be going to Lizze's parents.  This will give Lizze and I some time to ourselves. While we don't have the resources to really go anywhere, quiet time will be nice for a change.  Besides a break is a break, right? A post about hope and Mommy parts

Shortly after publishing my last post, Lizze's doctor called and they spoke for a bit about what's going on.  We received some clarification of a few things and learned some new ones as well.  This was really a good news/bad news kind of phone call. The good news is that as of right now, she's not yet in menopause.  :-) While her LH levels are really high, her FH levels are normal, indicating that she is not in menopause. She has something called........crap, I can't remember what it's called now.  Dammit. Anyways, here's where the good news/bad news comes into play.  Basically, her ovaries aren't working right.  That's the bad news.  The good news is that she has ovaries.  That's actually really, really good news.  Essentially, the doctor said that…

Maintaining hope

Lizze is in a really bad place.  These hot flashes are keeping her up all night and a bit irritable during the day.  She's even losing her hair still.  She has to take these massive, prescription doses of vitamin D because her levels are so dangerously low.  The last two days, she's really struggled to stay out of bed due to exhaustion, pain and nausea.  It's awful and aside for letting her sleep through life, there's nothing I can do to help her. A big problem with letting her sleep for so long is her history of blood clots.  Immobility is her worst enemy right now.  She hasn't had to use her cane in awhile but personally, I sorta feel like that's more because she hates using it and less…

Therapy for kids with Autism, shouldn’t be a privilege, it should be a right

In the last day or so alone, Emmett has fallen almost half a dozen times.  He's fallen up the stairs and down the stairs.  He tripping over his own feet and doesn't brace himself for impact, if that makes sense.. One of the things that OT was helping with was this sorta of stuff.  He was working on his coordination and strength.  While he was receiving OT, he was doing much, much better.  Unfortunately, insurance deemed that he would never make any progress and so they cut him off.  Since that time, he's been falling more and more often.  We have to get him in for a reevaluation and see if we can get him covered once again. Therapy for kids with Autism, shouldn't be a privilege, it should be…

Pizza for breakfast

It's already that kind of morning.  The kind of morning  where we decided breakfast based on the dishes that are already clean. In our case this morning, the verdict is leftover pizza from last night.  Sometimes it's about simple.... What have you served for breakfast that's not traditional?
