The lighter side of #Autism: Easy Peasy

Mondays are traditionally not good days for the Lost and Tired family.  This holds true today once again.  However, on the lighter, more positive side of things, Elliott got off to school without a problem.  He did a really good job of getting ready without any hassle.  On a day like today, I have to focus on something positive and anytime that Elliott gets ready for school without a problem, is a positive thing.  As Lizze would say, getting Elliott off to school today was easy peasy. Confessions of a frustrated #Autism Dad: Can’t win for losing

Lizze was already done for the day when I struggled to wake her up this morning.  She's in bad shape today and went back to bed because it's the only thing that she could really do.  She did manage to make contact with the doctors at the Cleveland Clinic this morning, she was supposed.  She had to make the initial contact and then give consent for me to take over.  We are now waiting for returned calls and appointment times.  Her OB/GYN wants these appointments as soon as humanly possible because as long as this goes untreated, Lizze's body is being destroyed from the inside out.  Because of everything going on, she needs to employ a team of doctors to address the different parts of this, from different angles.  I…

Autistics and Parents Working Together: Sensory Advice from someone who knows

Alyssa Z is an Autistic friend of mine who struggles with sensory processing issues. We spoke awhile back about the topic of sensory processing disorder and she wanted to share her personal insight and advice in an effort to help parents that are trying to help their kids with sensory processing issues. You can find her personal blog here: Yes, That Too. I would like to thank Alyssa for reaching out and help parents like myself with their spectrum kids by providing invaluable insight and advice. :-) Sensory Processing Dysfunction Clothing: Certain fabrics can be problems. Which ones will vary from person to person, but don't try to make someone wear a fabric that is a sensory issue. Finding different clothes is worth it. Learning how to make them yourself…

Trying to remain positive can be hard

When you face the daily challenges that my family does, it can be quite hard to remain positive.  It feels like every time I turn around, something else goes wrong.  Unfortunately, that's just the way our life goes.  Having said that, this coming week is going to be exceptionally difficult.  We have places to go and no means to get there right now.  We burned through our fuel budget a week ago with all the trips to Cleveland for Lizze.  This week we are supposed to return, at least once, if not more. In the morning, we are supposed to call and make appointments with OB/GYN, the endocrinologist and psychiatry.  These are crucial appointments because of Lizze's hormone problems and the ongoing damage being done until we get things back…

My ears are still ringing

Emmett had a meltdown today.  I don't remember what it was all about but it was a really, really loud. In fact, he screamed directly into my left ear and basically scrambled my brain like a egg.  My ear was ringing for quite some time.  I'll tell you what, for a kid that only recently began speaking, he's sure caught on quickly.  This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. More family fun for free

We took the boys to the playground today and they made a new friend.  I only got a couple of pictures because I didn't want to take pictures of someone else's kid. They had fun and that was really nice.  It was fun to see the kids, just being kids. My goal is to fill this summer with moments like this.  :-) Did you do anything with your kids today? I’m trying to be a better parent

One of the things that I'm making a concerted effort to do, is be a better parent. We have a lot going on and I'm personally battling with depression as well.  Sometimes motivating myself to do things with the boys is really difficult.  It's not that I don't want to, it's just that I'm always so tired from everything I have to do and all the stress I'm under.  Having said that, I'm really wanting to be a better parent and spend more time with the boys and provide them with a life outside the walls of our house. Things as simple as going outside to play are important.  One of the parts to this for me is spending more time outside.  The problem is that our neighborhood is not…

What are your kids into?

Pictured is the army of Squinkies that Elliott has collected so far, well minus one. :-) What are your kids into right now?  Elliott and Emmett are really into collecting small objects.  Of course, with Emmett's recent proclivities towards putting things where they don't belong, we might have to reconsider this.  They are huge into Ben 10, video games (which we no longer have) and these little rubber Squinkies.
