Elliott’s birthday was largely successful. I think it was anyway. After the boys finished class for the day, I got them over to see Lizze and we hung out in the driveway for about twenty minutes. Everyone was double masked and socially distanced.
The boys were able to get hugs from their mom that’s always a big thing for them. Like I said yesterday, this wasn’t ideal and I felt a little uncomfortable but I also think we were both safe and smart about it. Sometimes, the emotional wellbeing of the kids involves limited and calculated risk.
I ordered pizza prior to our arrival and timed it such that we would pick it up on the way home. It kept us on a schedule and it’s what Elliott wanted for his birthday dinner.
When we arrived home, we had an early dinner and watched the new Pacific Rim anime on Netflix. Again, Elliott’s choice.
I think it was largely successful COVID lockdown birthday, and while it wasn’t perfect, I did push the limits of my safety comfort level in order to give the kids some time with their mom. Like I said before, I can’t wait until we can put COVID behind us, at least enough that we can resume a more predictable visitation schedule. My ex-inlaws will be fully vaccinated this month, as will my parents. Lizze isn’t yet eligible and neither am I. Elliott and Emmett don’t even have an approved vaccine at this point so we have some time still. There is, however, a light at the end of the tunnel and as long as we (as a society) don’t screw it up, hopefully we can resume visits sooner than later.
I want to also thank everyone for the hundred and hundreds of birthday wishes that Elliott has recieved. I know Elliott appreciates it and so do I.
Have a great day folks.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words…..love it. And Liz looks like she’s lost a bunch of weight!! Good on her!!
