Congratulations on making it to 2021! If you are just graduating high school then you are about to enter the next chapter of your life and for most people that chapter would be entering the university of your dreams. But now an important step begins: the first year of the degree, where you discover what your academic performance will be like, what type of student you want to be, what will be your approach according to your tastes and talents. If you want to prepare for college, keep this in mind to choose the best high school.

Now that you are about to enter university, you must be more aware of things that you were not at school, so we give you some tips to make the change smoother. These tips are very subjective and should not be taken as the holy bible but it is better than nothing. Don’t leave anything to the last minute!

Level up your knowledge

In the first semesters, you will learn the basics of the entire degree and for that, you will need some topics that you saw in the last years of school, so avoid having conceptual gaps that could harm you. This is the same no matter which medical route you are taking, whether you’re training to be a family nurse practitioner, a psychologist, or a primary care physician. If you are planning to pursue a medical degree then you might need to search for free CME courses in the future.

Make a Calendar

Schedule a few days in your calendar to visit your university, get to know it well. Locate your faculty and recognize the buildings where classes are held. This way you will arrive on time and safer the first days. No one wants to be late especially on the first day.

In your calendar highlight in red the deadlines for delivery of documents and what they are; Although it seems bizarre, many students are left out of the enrollment formalization for not presenting all the requirements on time. You have to be aware of any important announcements, since the universities schedule meetings for new students to help them above all. So the best thing is that you have an agenda where you register both your activities and those types of events.

Motivate Yourself

Find out what extracurricular activities and groups the university offers and set goals. Join sports teams, dance teams, arts, leaders, and politics, belong to volunteers. Open your mind to more options than a career. You may have this in the bag when you have already caught the rhythm of your chosen field, but it is good that you have practice on the subject by taking good notes, having a good study method, and fast and comprehensive reading. It is not something that you have to prepare before university because you will discover it when you enter class, but what is certain is that you will need to take the correct notes and acquire a fast pace of reading, remember that there are going to be quite a few topics in little time, for that reason you will need an excellent study method. Here you can read how to prepare for a midterm exam.

Think in English

It may sound odd for people with English as their native tongue, but English will open doors for you anywhere. For this reason, many universities are demanding that their students graduate with a strong level in English, so do not leave this requirement until the last minute. Many students do it and without realizing the last semesters arrive, they need more time to improve their English, and thus they extend their career years. It is also important that you solve this issue sooner rather than later, even if it is not required at the university, since it will be a good resource that will serve you for many objectives that you consider within your career: a good job, going on an exchange, or a double career. The sky is the limit when you already have a certain proficiency in English.

Get Financially Organized

It is recommended that you organize your tuition and material payments if your career requires them. Whether you or your parents pay for college, or even between the two of you, it is good that everyone is clear about how they are going to face the payments of the next semesters, and if they do not have the entire degree.

Having a plan in economic matters is very important since an undergraduate costs a lot, from the tuition, the materials, the degree process, and more. That is why we advise you to organize yourself financially for what you know you must pay and thus be able to face unforeseen payments.

Stay Healthy

Make sure you are in good physical condition to handle your academic pace. Do not forget that doing physical exercise three times a week will relax you and will help your mind to release all the tensions generated by the new academic rhythm. As soon as you have your class schedule, make time for sports or recreational-physical activities that generate satisfaction. Do not leave exercise aside, rather, put it within your obligations.

Good article. Our youngest son graduated Medical school and is finishing up his 3rd year of residency. He chose to become a doctor because of his seeing first hand what his older brother, who is autistic, and our family went through over the years he grew up in our home. It was what motivated him to change from considering criminal justice to medicine.
