We’ve made it through the first week back at school and we’re doing pretty awesome. Emmett is completely current as is Elliott. This has been a challenge for autistic kids in regards to remote learning. I’ve spoken with tons of parents dealing with the same or worse. Lots of kids don’t even show up to class every day. I
I feel pretty good at this moment in time because the boys are adjusting to the change, finally. It’s only taken half a school year but we have made progress. That’s a positive thing and I’m crazy proud.
We had a rough day yesterday because you know, an army of stupid Trump supports literally laid siege on the Capitol Building, in a attempted coup. The goal being to ensure a second term for their treasonous leader. That’s not an easy conversation to have with the kids but we have no choice but to address these things because we can’t hide it from them.
The school addressed this with the students as well this morning in Social Studies because kids were talking about it and it’s a huge deal. It’s tough to reassure them when we have no idea what the fuck is going to happen over the next two weeks.
I sat in the living room this morning listening to Emmett’s teacher try to navigate this. She did a fantastic job trying to explain something so scary. That’s even tougher when there are 7th grade Trump supporters. This whole thing is fucking insane.
I had a hard time sleeping last night and I’m dragging a bit today but otherwise doing okay.
Last night I received an email from TurboTax letting me know that my stimulus is screwed up because the IRS deposited their customers stimulus checks into the wrong accounts. They aren’t sure how to fix this but they’re working on it. It doesn’t make or break me at this moment in time but it would certainly help and just think of all the people holding their breath waiting for their checks to arrive, only to wake up to this email.
We’re good for right now and I’m grateful for that. Worst case scenario, I can to claim it via my 2020 Tax return. I should see it sometime in March at the latest.
I have to try to get some work done and get a few projects started. I also need to get cracking on the new podcast season and get some things finalized there as well. My goal is to push myself through the afternoon and with any luck, I can make some progress before the weekend.
Hi Rob, I can tell from what you’ve written that you know that the stimulus checks are tied to your 2020 taxes. There’s an interesting bit about adult kids (like Gavin). If an adult child is NOT claimed as a dependent in 2020, then they are eligible for the refundable CARES credits on their own — and going forward if the Dems up it to $2000. Of course, not having as many dependents has other tax implications, so it’s not always a great thing to do, but it’s something to run through in Turbo Tax various ways and see if you do better as a family.
Have you considered using United Way VITA program? They do taxes — fed and state — for free and help with e-filing. Maybe your self-employment income is too high or too complicated for them (they have limited scope around some business income), but I highly encourage everyone with income under $57K to sign up with VITA. It’s all digital this year, so you don’t even have to find a VITA in your area.
Thanks Dot. Turns out the problem was between the IRS and TurboTax. I guess it’s the same thing that happened with people who filed using H&R Block. Deposits got sent to the wrong accounts. Got an email late last night from TurboTax explaining what happened and then one this morning saying the problem was resolved and my deposit was coming. It showed up a few hours ago.
I was talking to Rep Eric Swalwell maybe a week ago and asked him about the issue when it comes to adult dependents. He explained that this was something they were aware of and had tried to address but were blocked by the GOP. He said that was something they could fix if the senate flipped. The senate flipped and hopefully, that will be addressed before the next stimulus, which apparently may get done before Biden takes office. ☺
I am glad his teacher did a good job explaining. If I was still a teacher, I’d probably have had to take the day off. It would be VERY difficult for me to keep my anger about the whole situation to myself. Two more weeks seems like a VERY long time!
