One of the challenges I face as an #Autism Dad

I’m so fucking tired and I’m going to make this quick. Emmett’s eye appointment went well. He needs new glasses, which have already been ordered.

The spots in his vision don’t seem to have a physical cause and at this point, are not something to worry about. We do need to keep an eye on them going forward. One of the difficult parts of raising a child with Autism is communication, at least in my family.

My kids are brilliant and most have extraordinary language skills. The problem is that they struggle to express anything related to themselves. Introspection is not an area of their life in which they are gifted.

This is also on if the biggest obstacles that impede progress in helping them deal with their mom leaving. He struggles to express himself.

It’s frustrating as a parent because I can’t read their minds and when it comes to their health, it’s so important that I be aware of anything out of the ordinary, so I can get them whatever help they may need.

Emmett’s been dealing with the spots in his vision for a very long time and never thought to tell anyone about it. He’s one of the most intelligent people I know. He can do complex math in his head and yet something this simple isn’t even on his radar.

Anyway, thankfully, it’s nothing to worry about at this time.

Emmett has picked his glasses out and they should be here in about a week. He’s so excited to get his new glasses and it’s going to be a very, very long week of waiting.
