This is an unplanned follow-up to last Friday’s “Untethered From Reality.” Shortly after recording last weeks episode, Gavin was rushed to the hospital in the middle of the night via ambulance. I’ll talk about what happened, why Gavin was hospitalized, where we stand right now, and what we learned. This was a terrifying experience, and it sort of completes last week’s story.
It’s a teachable moment and provides some insight into what families like mine can often find ourselves confronting.

I am a woman with mild Aspergers and depression. I really feel sympathy for those with other issues combined with it autism. I hope your son is doing ok.
Jeez, Rob. I hope some of these things turn around soon!
I’m glad you were able to get the help you needed in the moment.
Thanks Becky.. So we’re we..
I can’t even imagine how hard it would be to see your child OD on their prescribed meds. The description was so clearly an overdose and I have to believe that you saw that so many times when you were medic that you recognized it immediately. I’m glad the younger kids didn’t have to see him stumbling or falling. Hope he’s doing better now.
That’s the thing. While my initial instinct was correct, and it did prove to be the Clozapine, it could have also been seizure related, low blood sugar and even an autonomic crisis. There wasn’t any way to know for sure, and the best thing was to get him somewhere so he can be managed appropriately, regardless of what it turned out to be. Physically he’s doing great. Thanks Kim..
