I know is there isn’t anything that I can do but I’m really upset that Gavin’s testing was canceled. The last time he had NeuroPsych testing was on 7/01/2014. I know that because I pulled his report. I thought it was longer than that but I guess not.
There are a few reasons that this test is so important.
The first is that it gives us a complete picture of where he is, how he thinks, what his capabilities are, where his weaknesses are and what we can do to help.
One of the big take aways from last time was learning how Gavin’s memory worked. He struggles with memory big time but at the time of his precious testing, they discovered that his brain is retaining the information but he’s unable to retrieve it without visual prompts.
That was something we were able to implement at home, to help him remember things.
Unfortunately, his memory has gotten much worse and prompts are helping as much as they used to. We would have learned how best to help him based on his current capabilities.
We would also have been able to directly compare where he is now vs where he was then. That will help us to see how much has changed in the last few years. I imagine there’s a pretty big difference and that’s very concerning.
Now we will have to keep fighting and hopefully get this claim approved asap. The most important thing to remember is that we never give up.
It makes sense now. If Gavin was tested 3 years ago insurance probably won’t pay for more testing until year 4 or 5 or it may even be a one time only thing. One thing that you may not have thought of is that Gavin will be a legal adult in January and that may open the availability of testing back up for him. The argument could be made that he is an adult now and a baseline needs to be established.
When I spoke with his case manager last, she said it was a paperwork issue. That’s more frustrating than it just being too soon.
I don’t know who dropped the ball but the Cleveland Clinic does this everyday and other parties say all paperwork was received. I’m just walking away from this for a few days because it’s causing way too much stress and there’s nothing I can do until next week anyway.
