We have a very busy day. Lizze has an appointment first thing in the morning. The boys and I will be dropping her off and then heading to a fundraiser for Wishes Can Happen.
Thursday and Friday they are having a Wish-A-Thon to raise funds to grant wishes for kids like Gavin. One of the local radios stations is sponsoring it and helping to raise money.
If you’re interested in supporting this amazing cause, click here to learn how. All money raised goes to funding wishes for kids with terminal or life threatening conditions.
I promised I would do my best to stop by in the morning to show support. It’s such a worthy cause and as long as nothing catastrophic happens, that’s what we’ll do.
After that, we have to swing by Gavin’s psychiatrist’s office to collect whatever lab results they have for our trip to Cleveland.
Lizze’s Mom is going to hang out with Elliott and Emmett while we’re gone. It’s a later appointment and so we will be gone for most of the afternoon.
Again, I’m really nervous about this because I don’t know what to expect and what kind of news we’re going to be getting. I’m so emotionally and physically drained from being constantly worried. I desperately need to better understand what’s going on and this is the doctor who will most likely be able to help us.
Anyway, I’m anxious to get this over with and begin to deal with whatever we learn.
Will any of the grandparents be going with you? I have to echo Dutch’s sentiments that a cross country trip won’t be easy. I’ve done it and it by myself and also with another adult and it’s harder than you might think. Now add three kids and another adult who all have various challenges and it’s a recipe for disaster. I do hope it works out for Gavin’s sake. He only has a couple of months before he ages out of the wish-granting program and he truly deserves something special. If his health or other family challenges make it impossible to get to Florida, I hope you’ll go back to the gaming computer idea.
Hey Kim. Sorry for the delay.
I agree with you guys, as I said below to Dutch’s comment. I’m concerned about the drive but they provide hotel stay in the way down, and a really nice van or suv to drive in.
This particular organization doesn’t age kids out at 18. The ones that do, simply must be referred before their 18th birthday.
If for whatever reason the trip doesn’t work out, we will figure out an alternative wish for Gavin. Honestly, it was hard enough to get Legoland out of him, so we’ll have a couple of backups.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and Gavin’s really excited about the trip, as are the boys. We’re going to do whatever we can to make it work. ☺

I know you are working on the make a wish to Orlando and I do hope you get something out of it for Gavin. But, before you get too far down the rabbit hole you might want to figure out the logistics of a driving trip to Florida. It’s a difficult experience under the best of circumstances. Not to mention the parks themselves.
I would see if you can work out alternatives too, gaming PC, something more local, things like that.
Believe me I have done my number of cross country trips, it’s not easy on the body or soul. And with only one driver, you are adding to it (the stress and time it will take)
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. New server and I had my plate full.
We are very aware of what two days in the car will be like. This is why we aren’t rushing anything. We want to plan everything out in advance, so it can go as smoothly as possible. Being the only driver is going to suck big time. That’s one of my biggest concerns.
We aren’t going into this lightly. ☺
