As one ages through life, one tends to gain wisdom and insight that they were previously lacking. What I mean by wisdom is learning from one’s past and gaining insights into different ways of thinking.

I’m absolutely no exception to this, and I want to share something that I’ve recently had a change of heart about.

We all know that April is Autism Awareness month. This is the one time of year where the world’s eyes and ears are pointed in our direction (the Autism community).

In Vivint's case, they provide special needs families with free home security and automation equipment, to help keep wandering kids safe, as well as provide peace of mind to their parents. Click To Tweet

In the past, I’ve taken a pretty hardline stance on the Autism Speaks Light it up Blue campaign. I’ve been very vocal about how I feel that buying a blue light bulb is more about padding the bottom line than raising Autism Awareness.

While there are parts of this campaign that are still distasteful for me, I have come to an important realization, and I want to share that with all of my readers.

Whether you want to call it Autism Awareness or Acceptance and Understanding, at the end of the day, it’s about making people more aware of Autism, so they can be more understanding and accepting of those touched by it.

Personally, I focus on Autism Awareness because I feel people are more open to that approach but that’s just my experience.

I’d be way less against it if Autism Speaks weren’t the ones associated with it and, for the most part, holding the mic.
