Sorry, didn’t mean for this to turn into a thing – over something ridiculous. Let’s move on. But this is much like that Casper mattress – once the damn thing is out of the box, good luck cramming it back in!!!

In all seriousness, I hope you enjoy the mattress, despite the aggravation it seems to have caused you here!

Jimmy Rock

Haha exactly

Moe

The story? You mean begging for them to send you one for review on Twitter?

Kim Gebhardt

Is there a comment missing? Who is feeding trolls? And what do you consider to be a ‘unique perspective’?

Kim Gebhardt

You’ve mentioned your back injury before. What exactly happened? I know you hurt it carrying a (presumably heavy) pregnant woman during an EMT run, but what was the actual injury to your back?

Jimmy Rock

I’m a little reluctant to comment on this, and I apologize in advance this is in any way off the mark, but I respectfully think you’re being a little less than straightforward on this one. So your “unique perspective” is that you have a back injury and can’t sleep on a regular mattress? You’ve been complaining about your old mattress for a long time. Presumably you haven’t gotten a new one because, unfortunately, you can’t afford one. A Casper mattress isn’t a special mattress for those with back injuries. It’s just a decent quality mattress that, like a number of companies are doing now, have made them able to be packaged in a small box and thus ending the annoyance of typical mattress shopping and delivery. I’m sure you’ll love the Casper, but I’d bet any new mattress would be better for you than what you’ve got.

Again, I apologize, but something about this just struck me the wrong way. Just call the situation what it is. It’s not a “unique perspective” that you bring to the table here. It’s just part of what you do- you ask companies to send you products in return for a review, which because of your online presence, can benefit the company. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. But you don’t bring a “unique perspective” to Casper-you’re just a guy with a bad back that could use a new mattress, particularly a free one.

Either way, good for you for being enterprising and getting the mattress. I’m sure it will be a great improvement over what you have now. Again, sorry if I overstepped, but perhaps that was what was bothering your troll who is incapable of a little sensitivity.

MOE

You tell so many fibs

I didn’t make accusations, you DID in fact ASK Casper to send you a mattress. THEY didn’t reach out to you!

And I am NOT a troll, just honest and you HATE IT

AND I have not been here for years lol

Jimmy Rock

I’m not generally quick to rush to judgment- I only commented after you provided additional information which led me to believe that I had enough of the story to make a comment. Perhaps I was mistaken -I’ll wait for further explanation. By the way, you’ve already changed the story about what your perspective is – initially you said it was from someone with back issues and now it’s someone from a demographic that the company usually doesn’t cater to.

And I know may seem like this is relatively trivial stuff, but this whole business of free things in exchange for reviews (or even beta testing) is interesting. I have no problem with you capitalizing on it – you should do it as much as you can. But honestly, isn’t there every incentive to give a positive review? I mean, if you continually gave bad reviews, would companies be so quick to have you review products in the future? Also, if they know your “unique perspective” (whichever version it is) don’t they pretty much know that you’re going to give a good review because it’s going to be better than what you already have? And if it’s just beta testing of products, what difference would the perspective of your financial demographic make to them?

Anyway, that’s the perspective *I’m* coming from on this issue. And I’m sorry- I don’t mean to give you a hard time. I’ll wait for further explanation, and sorry if I jumped the gun. Enjoy the mattress. Congrats on getting it. Hopefully it will help out in some way with your sleep issues.

Moe

Again, full of FIBS
I did not ATTACK you I simply stated that you ASKED Caspar for a mattress, which you DID
Side note, for being so super techy you sure don’t know how to ban someone – THAT was kind of an attack.

Moe

I’ve never tried to be unpleasant, As I have explained before, my brain just doesn’t really have a filter and you are SUPER sensitive to the truth and take it wrong even though I’m trying to help

I don’t know what you are saying I’m doing. I post as a guest because I’m not going to register

Moe

AND about my original post, what did I say that was untrue? They didn’t reach out to you, you reached out to them.

Lizze Gorski

Jimmy,
Simply because you are given something to review doesn’t necessarily mean your review will be positive. On my old blog I used to review books, some I volunteered to review but quite a few sought me out. I was honest in every review I wrote, even if it was negative. That doesn’t mean I didn’t try to find one or two positive things to mention, because I did. However, if I hated the book then I said so.

If you do reviews, you aren’t going to like everything you’re given. However, if you’ve liked the things you’ve been given so far, then that’s simply how it happens to have worked out for you.

Jimmy Rock

Hey Lizze, didn’t see this until now. With all due respect I think you may have missed my point. I think it’s great that you’ve given honest reviews on books that you’ve been given. However, there are plenty of studies that show that incentivized reviewers (i.e, reviewers who get the product to review for free) are more likely to give favorable reviews. That’s why Amazon has been cracking down on these types of reviews. Enjoy the mattress!

And just out of curiosity, I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen you comment here. Of all things, why the heck did you pick this topic to comment on? Not trying to be critical or anything, just legitimately curious.

Jimmy Rock

No worries. Of course some people are going to supply honest reviews, regardless of how the product came into their hands, but incentivized reviews are what they are.

And again, I am in no way critical of you doing this nor am I challenging your integrity. If companies want to give you free stuff, go get it!
