3 reasons why I couldn’t sleep last night

The boys went to bed without too much of a problem last night. They even fell asleep at a reasonable hour as well. If you think that I would take full advantage of that situation and go to sleep myself. Well, you’d be right.

Unfortunately, I was battling insomnia until almost 4:30 am.

There was nothing I could do to fall asleep. I tried our bed, the couch and even went back and forth between the two a few more times. I couldn’t fall asleep.

There were a few things working against me. I was unable to stop thinking and all my thoughts just churned throughout the night. At the same time, I was very stuffy and that always makes it harder for me to fall asleep.
The worst contributing factor is that I just couldn’t shutdown.

When speaking with my therapist last week, he explained that I’ve had to be hypervigilant for so long that even when I don’t need to be, I can’t stop.

I’m frustrated because I had a perfect opportunity to sleep and I couldn’t take advantage..

Needless to say I’m dragging a lot bit today and all I want to do is go to sleep. There are too many things that need to get done though and sleeping will simply get in the way.

For now, I’m going to keep pushing myself through it, hoping that I’ll be so exhausted tonight, sleep won’t be a problem.
