Gavin is continuing to struggle even after the final adjustment to his anti-psychotics. He is starting to see things during the day and not just at night. Well, at least he’s telling us about it now. He is falling up the stairs and dropping things more frequently. His speech is becoming more difficult to understand as well.
I don’t see a way we can avoid a hospital stay at this point. We can’t “not” send him because we feel bad doing it. He has a right to a quality of life much higher then the one he’s currently experiencing. As his parents we have to make the choice to set aside our personal needs and wants in order to ensure this happens. The guilt will be there reguardless and we’re just going to have to deal with that.
Gavin would not be going because he was “out of control” or because he was “bad”. Sending him would not be making our lives any easier. In fact it would further complicate things to a point that I don’t know how we would manage. But we have to get him the help he needs as soon as possible because the meds don’t appear to be helping……and the other kids are starting to pay a price as well.
Oh please take Gavin to the hospital if it is possible. You are so right about putting his quality of life first. I know this is very difficult for you. It sounds like he may be having dosing problems with his med.'s. I've been there in a differaent way and it all sounds too familar. The hospital is a refuge. I know you would not be treating Gavin in any way with alterior motives. I got to see Emmet yesterday and I just couldn't get enough of him. He is so sweet, just like his brothers. What a doll.
