Truthfully, when you have a child with a severely compromised immune system, things can get pretty scary at times.
Gavin has a severely compromised immune system, for which he receives IVIG (donor antibodies) infusions twice a week.
These infusions provide him with what is essentially a life saving medication.
Each dose of IVIG is derived from thousands of donors. In other words, it takes thousands of people donating plasma, to make one single dose of his medication.
Anyway, in all the years Gavin’s been receiving IVIG, he stayed mostly illness free.
I can honestly say that I don’t think I can even remember a time that he was running a fever, aside from times he was already hospitalized.
Today, Gavin’s running a fever for the first time and that’s got me a little worried.
Thankfully I checked before he started his IVIG, otherwise it could have been seen as a side effect of the infusion itself.
I’m going to have to keep a very close eye on him and may reach out to his immunologist.
Please keep Gavin in your thoughts and prayers.
