I had sort of a rough time sleeping last night.
I did sleep but I had the kind of dreams that aren’t quite nightmares but aren’t exactly pleasant either.
While Gavin was receiving his infusion this morning, I dozed off on the couch. He was playing Xbox and I was only a few feet away.
When I woke up towards the end of his infusion, he informed me that Sonic had been sitting with him, watching him play video games and that Sonic was very impressed with how awesome he did.
For those who don’t know, Gavin has a form of Schizophrenia called Schizoaffective Disorder. It’s essentially a blend of Bipolar and Schizophrenia, that has proven very difficult to treat over the years.
I’m just not sure what to do at this point.
Either the meds aren’t working or they are working and this is sorta bleeding through anyway.
Right now it’s not destructive or harmful, at least to the best of my knowledge but it’s still not good that he’s seeing/hearing these things again.
I wish there was a manual that could advise me as to what I should be doing. I have his doctors but I guess I mean more from a parents perspective.
What would be really amazing is if I were able to speak with someone who experienced the same things as Gavin but could also tell me what the right thing to do is.
Does that make sense?
If it isn’t causing him any distress or making him violent I wouldn’t worry too much.
KimGebhardt I doubt that has anything to do with it. It’s long established that these are not imaginary friends.

I know someone who has this disorder. She’s very close to me and I’m sure if it would help your son she would be glad to speak with you about it and let you know what she can.
While I know that Gavin has schizoaffective disorder, I’m curious if part of the visits from Sonic are due to lonliness. Lots of kids have imaginary friends. I know they’re usually younger Han Gavin, but you’ve mentioned before that his mental age is many years younger than his actual age. I find myself wondering if he got bored and/or lonely while you were napping and decided to have Sonic come for a visit.
