I wanted to share a little positive news in regards to Gavin.  No matter how bad things are, I alway try to find some positive.

One of the only things we can actually do for Gavin is teach him the life skills he needs to be as independent as possible.

This is the reason we have him helping out around the house so much.  Gavin’s two main tasks that we have been working on have been maintaining the litter boxes (because he wants his own car when he grows up) and taking out the trash/recycling.

While he doesn’t do these things without being constantly reminded, he’s able to preform them on his own, without any other than us having to refocus him a few times.

Recently, I’ve begun teaching him to do laundry.

As of right now, he can load the washer but not pour the soap or start the load.  However, he can switch the clothes out of the washer and put them into the dryer and run it, all by himself.

He hasn’t attempted this is a little while but I had him switch the clothes out of the washer into the dryer before he went to bed tonight.  He did it all by himself.  I had to send him back down to clean the lint trap but that’s not a huge deal.

Overall, he did a really good job, especially for only having tried a couple of times previously.

Great job Gavin.  🙂
