The boys have 7 days of school left before they are home all the time.  I love having the boys home but I’m not looking forward to the challenges we are gonna face on several fronts.

Obviously, Gavin is likely to remain just as challenging as he is today, if not more.

One of the other issues is food.  The boys will now be home for every single meal and snack of the day.  Our budget was barely enough to sustain us with the boys in school 5 days a week.  I’m not sure what we are going to do at this point but it’s gonna have to be pretty creative.
I’ve been trying to walk at least 3 miles a day and that’s a great deal more difficult with Gavin being home.  It’s even more difficult with all the boys home.

One of my goals is to get a treadmill, so I can continue walking from home…

The final glaringly obvious challenge is what are we going to do with our time? We still haven’t been able to replace our car and our time with the one we’ve been borrowing is coming to an end.

Getting the boys outside to play is often more challenging as the Summer wares on because as it gets warmer outside, th3  idleness between the gangs that surround our neighborhood intensifies. I don’t even like mowing the lawn cause I don’t want to catch a stray bullet.  In the last year or two we’ve had a few really close calls.

With all that said, the one thing I’m insanely grateful for is our central air.  The AC makes life easier for the boys, especially with Elliott’s asthma.

I guess this about sums up my main concerns for this coming Summer.
What kinds of things are you expecting this Summer? What types of challenges does your family face? How do you plan on handling these challenges? Do you have any plans for your family?

We’ve been out 2weeks already. My other school aged child got out in April. So jealous of all those still going lol. The free summer lunch program is nation wide usually held at several area schools. It’s open to all ages so your whole family can go

I would try to find summer camps / programs that are free or that offer financial helps for that will take kids with autism and also make sure they have some people there that are actually trained to deal with autism kids, because if not it could get out of hand, trust me i dealt with this issue last year.

Great advice. 🙂

There are programs available out there that can help provide meals for the boys this summer. I know that one of the schools here had a lunch program for kids in need.

Lost and Tired

That’s interesting. I’ve not heard of anything like that around here.

Rob, you may want to try http://www.whyhunger.org/findfood or call 1-866-3-hungry to learn about local summer food sites.

Thanks MB ☺

June 17th is the last day of high school for my son. I’m crossing my fingers that nothing gets in the way of him getting that diploma. And then it’s on to the next thing, whatever that is. Holding my breath, taking it one day at a time.

Lost and Tired

We’re pulling for him. 🙂
