I wanted to thank you for all your thoughts and prayers yesterday. Gavin’s first round of subcutaneous IVIG couldn’t have gone any better.
I can’t stress just how big of a victory this is for Gavin. He didn’t even have the strong numbing cream.
What we expected to happen never happened. We expected him to have redness, pain and swelling. His belly did itch at first but it went away with the Benedryl and there was nothing else. The only swelling he had was the physical solution unter his skin. That dissipated as his body absorbed the medication.
He’s actually looking forward to his next one because he doesn’t have to go to the hospital.
The entire procedure will take 2 – 2.5 hours and will be done every Friday while Elliott and Emmett are at school. Yes, this means that Gavin will miss school on Fridays but it has to be this way. If we need to implement tutoring we will do that.
The reality of the situation is that Gavin’s health is fragile and his physical health and safety has to come before all else in his life. That includes his education.
Today, there is absolutely no physical indication that he ever had this done yesterday.
This is a huge victory for my brave Gavin. I’m so grateful that this looks like it’s going to work for him. For all the challenges Gavin presents Lizze and I as his parents, one thing that I can say is that Gavin is the bravest kids I’ve met. He never complains about anything that has to be done to him for his health.
He’s so amazing…. 🙂
Way to go Gavin! 🙂
