One of the main things I like to do with this site is use it as a platform to advocate for special needs parents. Why advocate for special needs parents and not just special needs kids?

The truth is that parents play an indispensable role in the lives of their special needs kids.

This role is vital for the safety, wellbeing and success of their child.  It’s not even close to an easy job and in truth, I don’t know of anything more challenging, at least in this writers experience.

If a parent is overworked, exhausted, overwhelmed, frustrated, scared and alone, life is just that much more challenging.

To the contrary, if a parent is understood, supported, given or at least offered assistance and made to know that they aren’t alone, life may be just a little more manageable. It’s in this spirit that I find my passion for special needs parent advocacy.

When the parents are in the best place possible, given the tools and support they need, the special needs child will benefit greatly.

That’s not to say there aren’t exceptions to this but I think that when a parent is supported, it’s an overwhelmingly positive thing for both them and their child.
