After dinner tonight, Emmett took a piece of printer paper and went upstairs to find his pen. When he came down a little while later, he had a surprise for his old man.
He had written his name down on a piece of paper and wanted to give it to me as a surprise.
I always love to get something like this from any of the boys. Having said that, after today’s IEP meeting, this was really nice to see. It was like he was telling me, “don’t worry Daddy, see I can write my name a by myself.”
Tbis totally made my day.

rjones22 Very well put. I really appreciate you taking the time to share this. You’re making feel all kinds of good today. 🙂
fantastic. great job great news to wake up to!!!! Two things here that stick out in my mind beside the great news of him writing his name, 1) he had a surprise for you- that is fantastic showing the emotions of caring enough about his daddy to give him a “surprise” and knowing that a surprise for him is good and connecting that surprise for you would be good. 2) i really beiieve our kids pick up on how we are feeling good and bad. that doesnt mean we have to hide those feelings (which i should have some of mine lol). this is another example of him showing empathy but it goes farther than that because he picked up the mood!!! That is good in itself and it is ok for them to know you worry/care about them. Just like Gavin coming to you when ill the other night. You all lizzie are doing a great job and showing empathy and getting the kids to understand empathy and sympathy. it is hard for non autistic kids to grasp. Excellent checkmark in the parenting category of helping all your kids prepare for adulthood.
