Elliott is home from school today because he was up all night due to not feeling well, although he won’t admit it.
Mr. Elliott is our amazing 7 year old aspie.
Unfortunately, he’s very much an extremely anxious child and quite fearful of the doctors. When it comes to being sick or not feeling well, he does his best to hide it for fear we will take him to the doctors.
The only way we knew that his throat hurt today was because he made the comment that the popsicle we gave him made his throat feel better.
When I asked him if his throat hurt, a look of panic comes over his face and he begs me not to take him to the doctors.
I have lost track of how many times I’ve tried to explain to Elliott that just because he doesn’t feel, doesn’t mean he has to go to the doctors. Even if he did, that doesn’t mean he’s going to get a shot or have his blood drawn.
It’s so frustrating when one of my kids generalize something and either assume or fear that the something in question will always be the same, no matter what. 🙁
