Lizze and I just survived a trip to the store, where we were searching for new shoes for the boys. OMG talk about a nightmare.
Elliott was actually pretty easy but Emmett was another story all together.
He had to have velcro shoes that light up and wouldn’t look at anything else. We had a few mini-meltdowns before finally deciding that he didn’t like his options and that we should go to a different store.
The store was really busy and as we were next in line to pay for Elliott’s shoes, Emmett decided he just had to have the shoes that he just had a meltdown because he didn’t want them.
People wonder why I have no hair and my beard is grey.
I had to run all the way to the back of the store and get the box containing the shoes he now just had to have.
Shoe shopping with my Autistic boys is no easy task. If the shoes feel right and when you happen to find a color they like, the size is wrong or there’s a string sticking out. My kids are super picky and a seemingly benign trips to the store for shoes, is far from easy and may actually be one of my least favorite things in the world to do.

There is a great new home children shoe sizer that makes shoe shopping a bit easier. It is called Squatchi, the bigfoot sizer for little feet. It was developed by two moms in Atlanta. It is a great product for everyone with toddlers, autism or not. Reality is that shoe shopping with kids is a real ordeal!
debralange very cool. Any links
Oh I feel for you there. We have the added issue of needing to be suitable to use with insoles that stop my daughter rolling her feet in! Thank goodness for dinosoles!
My son has been wearing the same cheap style of Walmart shoes since forever. With velcro straps. It’s not like we haven’t tried. I nearly lost my mind trying to get him to break the mold, but finally I just gave up.
hudginsvicky it all worked out today. It wasn’t easy but we made a memory and the boys got new shoes. 🙂
