I wanted to take a few minutes and update ya’ll as to where we stand when it comes to Operation Hope.
For starters, Gavin seems to really be doing well at Lizze’s parents.
I’m not entirely sure why that is but I do know that the expectations are different there than they are at home. For one thing, they don’t have to worry about his impact on the other boys.
We’ve always said that life would be very different if Gavin were an only child.
The fact is that he isn’t an only child and we have to be very careful when he is around his younger brothers.
As far as residential placement goes, I’m really beginning to feel like it’s never going to happen.
Gavin needs residential placement for a number of reasons. There is the obvious mental health issues that absolutely need to be addressed. However, the other, arguably more pressing issue is his physical health.
Gavin’s health is so far beyond complex that I don’t know how to describe it.
The hospital that we are looking at for residential placement is one that appears to be able to not only address the mental health issues but also the physical health issues as well.
I would give just about anything to know what the hell is going in with him.
We’ve been chasing answers for almost a decade now and have made very little progress. His health is just as much a mystery as it ever was.
We actually have another wraparound meeting today. This is basically just a follow up to see where we stand on everything.
I don’t expect anything spectacular to happen. Like I said, this is just a meeting to touch base and compare notes. You can think of it as a way of making sure everyone is on the same page.
Anyway, as far as the rest of us go…..it’s pretty much the status quo for right now.
Nothing is really going our way at the moment. Things could definitely be worse but they could absolutely be better as well.
Right now we’re barely surviving but surviving nonetheless and that’s something…….right??

Why is it called "Operation Hope" when it involves long term placement of your son?
That\’s easy. It\’s Operation Hope because our hope is that Gavin can get the help that he needs and be able to come back home. Also, this may be the best way to pin down his fragile health, identify the cause and treat it, if possible. The other side of the country is that removing him from the house, at least temporarily, the rest of the family has some hope of recovery from years and years of his behaviors.
