Rob keeps asking me to write a guest post for him about how My Life Beyond Labels came into being. I’d love to write that guest post for him. I’d love to write that post for myself! (Lord knows I’m starting to lose track of all the posts I either need to write or I’ve promised y’all. {lol}) But this post is important. This is a post that must be written and so, I will write it.

Some of it now. Some of it later.

Please visit My Life Beyond Labels let me know what you think. I’m still doing some remodeling, but it’s come a long way. 🙂

Untitled

All of my life

I’ve been a label.

A stereotype
A classification

Treated
Heartlessly
Cruelly…

Sub-human.

Because I am different.

People fear
That which is different.
That which they do not understand.

Inside,
I am just a girl.

A daughter.
A mother.
A wife.
A sister.
A friend.

It is not those labels
Which scares others
Which cause them,

To say
And do
Mean and cruel things.
Causing them to make threats
And use words to harm.

The labels they fear
The very ones I seek to transcend
Are truly
No more threatening
Than my other labels.

The irony, of course,
Is they all come together
These ‘acceptable‘ and ‘unacceptable‘ labels
To create ME!

The Me
You see today,

The Me
You saw yesterday,

The Me
You will see tomorrow!

The Me
You know.

The Me
You love!

The Me
Who wrote this poem
To let you in to help her heart
Just a bit more,

I am all one in the same.

I am just a girl
With ADHD.

A girl
With Fibromyalgia.

A girl
With a back ‘injury’ and chronic migraines.

A girl, in the minority,
With Asperger’s Syndrome.

A girl
With the best God chosen family in the world.

A girl
With a dark past and a much brighter future.

I am just a girl
Please take extra time to get to know me,
In spite of my labels.

And watch what wonderful things happen
Despite my labels!

I love you labels or not!

@lostandtired @Michelle Metzger Thank you so much for you kind words. I love writing my blog but I love it even more when I learn that it's helped someone else. 🙂

@Lizze  @Michelle I would like your writing, even if we weren't married. I for one, hope you share more of what you write and have written. 🙂

Michelle Metzger

Hi Lizze,
My name is Michelle and I have 3 grandsons who are all autistic. Your poem is truly wonderful, its open, its honest and it says much about you as a person, mother, wife, sister, friend, girl and all the other bits and pieces that make you who you are. I also suffer from chronic pain and several health issues so I understand how difficult some days can be for you with so much on your plate. From what I've read about "the lost and tired family" proves how selfless you can be when it comes to doing what you think is best for your family, although the choices and decisions you have to make on a daily basis must be totally overwhelming. Add that on to your own personal pain and suffering and that makes you a true inspiration to me. I know how difficult those days can be and I'm not there dealing with all the issues my son and daughter-in-law do each and every day. I do what I can but it never seems like I'm doing enough to help. I feel very inadequate most of the time because I don't have a clue on how to help them be the best they can be. I have so much to learn and so many questions to ask but I don't know where to turn to get some of the answers I need in order to help my grandsons and their parents. I've just started reading "lost and tired" and now your new blog but in the short period of time I've been doing so, I don't feel so alone any more. Thank you for sharing and God Bless You and your Family.  I'm really not sure how to post this so in closing all I can say is that I hope your receive my message of Thanks!
