Our immunologist left me a message this afternoon telling us not to worry. She explained that while the numbers were low, that it’s pretty consistent with Gavin‘s previous levels.
Basically, it would be alarming to someone who does have his previous results in front of them to compare to.
That’s what happened. Nothing was done maliciously and we aren’t upset with anyone. If you think about it, it makes sense. If you didn’t know that these were in line with previous results, it looks pretty bad.
The doctor said that more than one of the levels were low and so his next infusion will see an increased dose of IVIG. Hopefully that will help to bring his levels back in line.
I think the next step would be a second infusion every month, especially if Gavin doesn’t tolerate the increased dose very well.
For the record, I will take that over what we were worried about in a friggin heartbeat. My body however, is still riding that adrenaline rush and I’ll probably crash at some point today but again, I’ll take that over the alternative.
I would like to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers. It’s not easy raising a child as complex and mysterious as Gavin. We run into these situations where new information or symptoms present themselves and it’s really scary.
I know it may seem like Gavin is a huge burden on our family, and in truth some of his behaviors are. Having said that, we love Gavin completely, regardless of his behaviors.
In the Lost and Tired family, no one gets left behind…no one. 🙂
