It’s been 2 weeks since back surgery and here’s how I’m doing

It’s been such a good day I almost don’t know what to do with myself. I had my stitches removed on Tuesday night and as far as I can tell, I’m back up to 100%. I was able to do a 90 minute workout today for the first time since my surgery and it felt amazing. I have to play catchup a little bit because of the time off but I don’t seem to have lost any of the gains I’ve made.

I can’t explain how good it feels to be off restriction and back to my old self.

The boys have been home all week from school. They came home from their mom’s house on Sunday not feeling well. It’s just a cold but they aren’t allowed at school because of the symptoms. They’re miserable, as any kid with a runny nose, nasal drip, and a cough would be, but otherwise fine. Unfortunately, due to COVID, it’s like no one knows how to handle this. I don’t know what to do aside from keep them home until they’re feeling better. I spoke with the school and apparently kids are getting colds but it’s got people freaking out because without a COVID test, you have no idea what you’re dealing with for sure.

I said it was a good day so I don’t want to dwell on this. I’m grateful the kids are slowly feeling better. It’s my understanding that we are not the only ones dealing with this right now. At least there’s that.

As for myself, I feel totally fine and I’m keeping everyone moving forward.

One of the few times I really feel overwhelmed as a single parent is when all the kids are sick at the same time. I seem to have a handle on most things anymore but times like this are more challenging. Thankfully, everyone is still functioning and not in need of much from me, at least above or beyond the usual. I also stand by my long time assertion that there should be a rule that kids with special needs don’t have to deal with things like colds. Simple illnesses like these are so much harder for our kiddos and it’s tough to see them this miserable.

In other news, I was crazy productive today. I was able to help out some people very close to me this afternoon. That is important to me and always feels good. I very much want to be there for the people I love and care about.

I spent a lot of time hanging out with my kids as well. I was able to get a good deal of work done. Actually, it’s been a really good day for business and I’m feeling incredibly optimistic about the future. I need to make some adjustments to how I do things and become a bit more efficient. One of the big challenges is just managing the number of emails I get daily. I need a system that helps me to keep better track of who I’ve followed up with and who still needs followed up with. Honestly, it’s a good problem to have because it means business is getting better. So, no complaints here. ☺

I realized this evening that I was able to mow the lawn again because my stitches were removed. I was all over that after dinner. It’s been two weeks since I was able to get the yard done and it felt amazing to do that once again tonight.

There are still a few things that I need to get done on the outside of the house before the cold weather sets in. The front porch floor needs painted, as do the front steps. The foundation all the way around the house needs sprayed and my Dad is going to bring his sprayer over to knock that out. The back porch needs prepped and painted, as well as the garage door. None of this is particularly time consuming or difficult but I haven’t been able to work on it because of my back. As soon as I’m done outside, I’m moving to the interior of the house and my mom suggested that I start with my bedroom. It needs repainted and new carpet. I like the idea of starting here because getting my room done will improve my immediate environment, which puts me in an overall better place. I also have some projects I’m going to be working on outside of my house and I’m excited to help out with those as well.

The podcast looks to be growing rapidly and I need to improve my recording environment. That’s on my shortlist of things that need to get done as well. I may look at reclaiming my office and converting it into a studio. It’ll need some minor remodeling as well as soundproofing but that’s pretty cheap. I spend a lot of time working on the podcast and a good workspace is a positive thing.

I have some ideas and a wishlist of things I will need to get to build this out. I’ll be writing about this later. I thought it might be helpful for those people looking to do something similar.

Anyway, it’s been a really good day and I feel like I’m going to sleep well tonight. I have four recording sessions in the next day or so and that’s gonna have me pretty busy. I’m excited to have some great conversations with some truly amazing people.

I’m going to call it a night because I have an early morning workout.
