We escaped for a little while today

The kids had a mixed bag kind of day because life is just getting to be a bit much lately. I got the kids to school and we made it through the school day. I mean, it’s remote learning so we didn’t have to go very far but it can still be a challenge. Everyone is current on their school work and that’s awesome. I’m so proud of my guys.

There was a good bit of fighting today because, as I said, they’re just done with everything going on around us. They tested my patience and I’m not afraid to say that.

After Elliott finished up class, I decided to take them for a short hike.

We were only out for about an hour and didn’t run into any another human beings. Emmett wanted nothing to do with going but he needs a distraction and I figured a hike in the middle of winter would be refreshing. It’s been a couple of months since we’ve been out, at least according to the kids. I’ve honestly lost track of the time.

Emmett found some peace while on the walk and that was a very positive thing.

Unfortunately, we had some car trouble, which is a bit frustrating. Something is going on with the passive entry. I don’t actually unlock the doors, as long as I have the keyfob on me, the doors unlock when I touch the handle. That was unresponsive so I had to use the emergency key which manually unlocks the driver door. The door unlocked but the alarm wasn’t disabled and it went off.

It should stop as soon as I start the car but it’s a push button start that requires the keyfob to be on me in order to start the car. That wasn’t responding either. I ended up being locked inside the car, unable to disable the alarm and the boys were locked outside the car because the power locks weren’t working and I was trying to get the car started.

After about 10 minutes of being stuck, I was able to start the car remotely with my phone. Once the car started, I was able to push the button and that fixed everything, at least for now.

I called my brother on the way home and apparently, there’s a hidden spot inside the car that I can place the keyfob that allows me to override the push button start but I didn’t know about that until today.

Needless to say, I have to get this fixed because it’s a major problem.

At the end of the day, we made it home and that’s all that matters for the moment.

After dinner, the kids and I played Minecraft together. Gavin actually joined us and that hasn’t happened for a long time. That was so cool because we haven’t done that in forever. It ended in a disagreement between Gavin and Emmett but they worked it out, eventually.

I’m grateful for the day of memories we made. It wasn’t perfect but it was all bad either. I think the positive outweighed the negative. Our days don’t always end up being this positive and I do not take them for granted.

I have meetings scattered throughout the rest of the week and I also start recording on Thursday. I’m excited about getting back to work on season 4. I feel like we had a great start to the week and I hope it bodes well for the next few days.

I once had a car with a key fob. I had jumped out of car while it was running, and then it locked on me! Turned out to need a new battery in the key fob.
