The paycheck came today and I decided to take the family out to Cracker Barrel for dinner. We haven’t been out to dinner as a family for a long time, and there’s good reason for that.
We haven’t had the money to do things like this for awhile. Secondly, it’s fucking hard to get three kids with Autism organized, and cooperative, all at the same time.
Just getting out the door was a nightmare. I came damn close to forgetting the whole deal because I’m in an enormous amount of pain, and running short on patience. More on that later.
We finally made it to Cracker Barrel and surprise surprise, Emmett has a mini-meltdown because he can’t decide what he wants. That’s another reason we avoid these situations. lol
Our waitress was awesome and she walked him through custom building his own special dinner.
I always get chicken and dumplings when I’m there, and this was no exception. I asked Emmett if he wanted to try a dumpling because he was curious about them. I never thought he would ever try them because they were new and covered in sauce.
That little stinker tried one tiny dumpling, and I ended up having to fight him for the rest of my dinner. He actually liked it. He more than liked it, he loved it. This is something that has almost never happened. This one tiny event made everything we had to go through to get there, absolutely worth it.
This may not seem like a big deal, but I assure you, this is a monumental moment for this Autism family. ☺
Now that you know Emmett will eat it, chicken and dumplings is incredibly easy to make. You can make the dumplings out of Bisquick-the recipe is right on the box. Mix it with milk and you have dumpling dough.
Thanks… ☺
That is good sign for Emmett! It opens the door to maybe try more things. I just saw a sign yesterday that our state doubles food assistance money for buying fresh fruits and veggies at stores AND at farmer’s markets! You should see if your state does this as well, because fresh produce can be a little more expensive.
Cheers for Emmett!
Thanks Becky
Well done Emmet. Least he’s trying New things, always good.
Amen to that. It’s a major accomplishment.. ☺ Thanks
