This is complicated because GAMMAGARD is considered a speciality medication and because of that, there’s an approval process we have to go through in order to make this move.
I’ve spoken to Gavin’s case manager who doesn’t seem to think it will be a problem but she’s checking to make sure.
The new pharmacy we want to move this to is happy to do anything they can to help but said we need to make it through the insurance barrier first and the general thought seems to be that this will be a problem. I’ll have to wait to hear back from Gavin’s case manager before I know anything for sure.
It’s important to understand that this isn’t a medication that is stocked by any pharmacy and needs to be dropped shipped in a refrigerated manner. Once received, it will be immediately delivered to our house.
I don’t think they’ve actually done this before but it shouldn’t be a problem, as long as insurance is on board.
At this point, everything should be fixed and we should be receiving his deliveries until we can make the switch. For now, I’m just grateful that his doctors fought for him today and made things work until we can move on.
Gavin will be quite relieved to receive his infusion, hopefully sometime tomorrow. Yay… This is a pretty awesome victory.. ☺
It’s too bad you had to deal with the incompetence of the current supply company. Hope everything gets worked out soon.
