All it takes is one person to make a difference. One person to gain an understanding of what Autism is like and how it impacts a family. One person to use that knowledge to show kindness and compassion to a family touched by Autism.
I received this message today on Facebook. Heather is her name but I’ve removed any identifying information, including her last name and profile picture. She gave me her approval to share this.
Tell me this isn’t just amazing. Tell me this doesn’t renew your faith in humanity.
Heather has had no prior contact with a special needs child, aside from reading this blog and following my family’s story. Rather than reacting to this child in distress the way many in the general public would have, she showed compassion and kindness to this child having a meltdown.
This absolutely made my day because it’s a reminder that we, as a community, can make a difference.
I’m so proud of Heather and grateful for her humanity, kindness and compassion. My heart goes out to this family and I join Heather in hoping they’re okay.

Thank you Heather for not only allowing me to share this but also for renewing my faith in humanity…. ☺
Sometimes that is all we ask for! Thank you Heather x
