I thought this might be another good reference post. There are so many things that are difficult for the lay public to understand in regards to Autism or Special Needs Parenting and I came across one of those today.
Today’s topic has to do with exhaustion.
As an Autism parent for 15 years now, I understand that exhaustion is caused by way more than just as lack of sleep.
Even if I got a solid 8 hours of sleep, I would be exhausted from simply living with, raising and helping my 3 kids on the Autism Spectrum. Getting enough sleep certainly helps but it’s not even close to a cure for the level of exhaustion that one faces as an Autism parent.
It’s called chronic exhaustion for a reason….
I would like to hear what you find particularly exhausting about being an Autism parent.. Please share it in the comments below and with any luck, it will help others who read it to have a better understanding of how and why Autism Parenting is so exhausting. ☺
