I’ve spent the last few days revitalizing my site and making it more esthetically pleasing and user friendly. Several changes have taken place, both on the back end and front end.
I’ve moved to a new theme that is very mobile friendly and will automatically adjust to the size of your screen. This keeps me from having to manage two different themes.
Another change is the commenting system.
We’ve made the change to Disqus from LiveFyre, in order to make commenting a bit more engaging and user friendly. This works very well on mobile platforms as well.
I would love to get your feedback on the changes. Please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts.
This site is managed almost exclusively from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Please forgive any typos as auto-correct HATES me. 😉

The new site is great. Still having a problem with the mobile version: there is an annoying black ad bar that follows the page you are on and scrolls up or down with you. It slows browsing down greatly, and sometimes stalls the site. Any way to get rid of that?
I’ve been meaning to figure out where that’s coming from. I think it’s a widget but I’ll look into it. Sorry about that.
I think I found it. once the cloudflare cache expires, it should be gone for good.
Looks nice. I like how streamlined it is. 🙂
I did run into a problem with Disqus though. I’ll share in case anyone else has this issue. Disqus comments weren’t loading in Firefox for me. After doing some Googling, I learned that if you use Avast antivirus, there is a known issue in which Avast’s Firefox plug-in blocks Disqus.
Simple Fix:
1. In Firefox, Go into your Tools -> Add-ons
2. Find the “avast! Online Security” add-on in the list and disable it.
3. Reload Firefox and Disqus will run. 🙂
Thanks 🙂
Rob I love the new layout and such. One thing I would like to suggest- I often will hit the site once or twice a day and have to catch up with several posts. I don’t see a way (it might be there and I am just not seeing it, its been a long day) to move from one post to the next without going back to the home page. I am lazy and probably will read less posts if its not easy to navigate between them
That’s a good question. The links for the previous and next post are right above the comments. 🙂
Love the site makeover! Nice job, Rob. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours!
Thank you so much Elle. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours as well…..
I wanted to share my own personal, very big autism victory. Actually, two of them:
On the 24th I had a fight with my mom and left the house alone and basically in tears, having just had a meltdown, with no coat and no car keys, and the closest person who could come and get me was over half an hour away. But I found a safe place to go: our next-door neighbor, who happens to be the minister for the local church. I’m proud of myself for thinking on my feet.
Today this evening, I went into my boyfriend’s bedroom alone to change clothes, shut the door…and couldn’t open it again. I called for help and they tried to open it on the other side but couldn’t. It turned out the knob was broken and they had to take it apart entirely, which took like fifteen or twenty minutes to do. And I DID NOT PANIC. I just calmly asked if there was anything I could do to help from my side, should I climb out the window, etc., and even thought to shove some letter openers and stuff under the door in case they could be of help. A few years ago I would have been slamming myself against the door over and over again, sobbing and screaming.
Christmas is a time for miracles. they say.
Meaghan, that’s awesome. Thank you so much for sharing. I’m so proud of you. 🙂
That’s just an awesome story. It really doesn’t have much to do with the reformatting of this site or any other topic in this post, but I’m sure it brought a smile to many readers. Thanks for sharing.
I’m sure you’re proud, but what does this have to do with the tremendous effort Rob put into remaking his site?
What happens is I get so excited about my minor victories that I run onto Rob’s blog and comment on the first post I see. I know it’s not terribly good netiquette but I don’t do it very often anyway.
No explanation is needed. 🙂
