A morning of meltdown madness

Emmett’s been melting down on and off, all morning.   There doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason to this but I’m sure there is, even if we can’t see it.

Something that has always been tough for us, was trying to figure out what was triggering the meltdowns, when the cause wasn’t something obvious.

In my experience, the meltdowns my kids have, tend to be the result of overstimulation.  Emmett’s a perfect example of this because he’s overstimulated throughout the day at school. Between the lights, noise and all that’s expected of him, he’s completely overwhelmed by everything and the moment he gets into the van to go home, his body purges.

On days like today though, I have no idea what’s setting him off.  If I did, I could try and remove what was causing the overstimulation or remove him from the situation.

Either way, it helps to reduce his stress and avoid the aforementioned meltdown.

Unfortunately, for today, I suspect it’s simply the overall stress in the house that’s contributing to these meltdowns. This is one of those situations where it’s best to try and remove him from the offending environment.

Thankfully, the boys are going to my parents house to smash and squish pumpkins to make homemade pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.

That will be a ton of sensory input and it should be a welcomed change of pace for the boys.
